Legit question, I think that the youngest of the children of forum members probably have more camping time logged than me, never the less I do go on the occasional hike and to your question, either my orange full size Ritter Grip on my full size Bone Collector, why? I don't know, they just seem right. 0 -
915 triage SBK also works well on hunting trips. 0 -
My trusty afo always hits the bush with me, aside from the 3550 always in the pocket and a fixed blade usually on my pack. 0 -
The last few times I went, I reached for the M4 552 with Ranger green Wilkinsgrips. I love that knife

I camp and hike a lot, and have found that most of my folders are useless and extraneous weight that I don't need. I stick with a small Victorinox SAK and a 4-5" fixed blade for all of my cutting chores. 0 -

If it's only a folder... pocket bushman, cheap enough, tough enough and not something I'd mind abusing.
I take my machete, good for clearing space, taking branches down easily.
Sierra saw, beats the pants off of a SAK saw and barring running into a fatwood gold mine it'll handle most chores very well with the machete.0 -

From my current line up of folders I have, I would choose my Large Regular Sebenza. I normally pack a fixed blade like my Simonich Crowfoot or Simonich Urban Raven and a Leatherman Wave. 0 -

I'm kinda in the same boat with a lot of folks, as I'm sure Boss anticipated, it is also my golden opportunity to have a "legitimate purpose" for carrying a fixed blade, and I usually so excited about that I neglect to bring a folder along.

For me it's a fixed blade plus a folder. Folder is currently a mini grip or what ever I feel like carrying.
If I had to take only 1 knife (and it was a folder) then I would go for the 275 Adamas or Contego.
I agree with 2 knives being extra weight (but I do it anyway). I also agree that part of the fun is having different ones to use.
The reason I carry 2 is I consider knives as important as fire starting tools and you should have a backup. The folder is used for small cutting jobs and is easier to get to since it's in my pocket. The fixed blade for heavier tasks and may or may not be carried on my belt. If either failed the other could pickup the slack in a true survival situation (otherwise I would not baton, etc. with a folder).
I have been looking at the Ritter survival knife, not by BM. It is $16 and meant to be used only when your primary knives are gone. For $16 it looks neat and Doug Ritter designed it.0 -

I forgot to mention: I have carried all manner of Benchmades when camping, but in the end, I usually come back to old reliable. That's an M4 520.0 -

Never really put a lot of thought into a specific folder to pocket when going camping as my primary is always a fixed when I hit the field.
If I were to carry a folder as a primary outdoors knife, I would likely go with either a 581 or 710...0 -
That's easy...around camp and on the trail I rely on my 520 all day long. The only exception is I have had better luck cleaning trout with the 710's longer blade. And, like several guys have said, if I'm out of sight of the truck, I always carry and depend on a fixed blade, just in case. 0 -

When I'm out in the field, I take a fixed blade, and now it's my Nimravus. I also carry a folder (when I'm camping with the Boy Scouts, it's only a folder), and it's usually my Rift. Now that I have a 520-1101, I will likely carry it for a few trips to try it out. Eventually I'll have a 275 for camping. 0 -
I always carry a small folder camping, usually my Bradley Alias 2. It's a lot easier to clean the sand out of a frame lock than an Axis lock. The small folder goes places my fixed Ritter wouldn't be welcome. 0 -
