This is one i'm thinking i'm gonna have to give a try once it hits the local outlets I've played with Benchmade's other ultralight offerings ( i.e. 53X, Grip & Mini-) and honestly none of them have done anything for me.
The handle ergonomics look awesome and the clip is just plain sexy. Also, besides my 9555 Rift, my 490 is my every, every, every day carry and the blade on the Bugout such a cool match that i think I'm gonna just have to have one0 -
Jason, I know a i'm still new around here, but I've been packing Benchmade for close to 20 years now, and I sincerely promise that if you loan me one for a couple months I'll give it a most thorough workout for you. 0 -

My wife may not understand my love of knives BUT no frowns, complains or arguments.
I explained early on a guy needs a hobby, & I none of the following:
1) don't drink
2) don't smoke
3) don't do drugs
4) don't fool around with other women
So compared to other addictions me collecting knives looks really good to her.
Early open & frank discussions in a relationship make for a great marriage & knife collection.

Hmmm.. some facts, you say?
1. Grivory is a 50% glass-filled Nylon. For a plastic, it's incredibly strong and inflexible. It's touted as essentially a material that could be used in place of aluminum. It obviously has different physical characteristics, but ultimate failures generally occur in the same ballpark.
2. Longer liners really only add additional strength when twisting or bending the handle. The lock is just as tough, regardless. Longer liners add a ton of weight, so that wasn't really an option. They are not much shorter than a 530 liner, anyways.

Those are some good facts. Definitely makes me feel better. We need some more of those cutting demonstration/axis-failure-test videos; those were always good for laying anxieties to rest.0 -

Yeah, I think some folks are focusing solely on the potential (thusfar unproven) downsides of the design choices and not the upsides. The knife was designed with light weight as a primary goal. This isn't an Adamas Jr.
Anyway, I guess I was wrong: "weak cartridge liner" is the new "weak Griptilian handle."0 -

/|\ Thanks Jason. One other thing ( for now) I've noticed on my 940-1 EDC it had a little side to side blade wabble not to long ago & I found one of the 4 screws holding the nested liners to the handle got loose. Tightened up that screw no blade wabble. So I am thinking with only 2 screws on the 535 holding the nested liners to the handle that those 2 screws remaining tight has to be more critical to the 535 than a screw on the 940-1.

Actually, having the screws go into the stop pin help enormously when it comes to holding parallelism with cartridge liners. The 940-1 doesn't have that, while the 535 does.
However, I do recommend keeping your liner screws tight.0 -
Well, I have my new carbon fiber scales in hand but apparently my torx drivers are not very high quality and the driver is stripping and twisting. Off to town to find a new set, argh the anticipation ha ha. 0 -
