Introducing The 535 Bugout!

@Po and Marty, aside from material costs, Ti is pretty famously difficult to work. It's not until recently that cheap Ti (by which I mean cheap "made in china" products) became a thing. 0 -
Honestly I'm most excited about that small deep carry pocket clip 0 -
Ordered mine & got confirmation that it has shipped. 0 -

...that's all I got.

Bladehq has a new video about it. I like the pronunciation "boo-JOE."

I find the knife having somewhat of a 707 style blade ........
I might even get one of these myself......
Iam not as much of a steel snob that I once was .........LOL0 -
My second day with one. Was going to put a review in the review section tonight.

Mine is on order. Hope I get a shipping notice soon. I see there is already a company on Facebook with a set of aftermarket scales coming out for it this weekend. 0 -
I think that is super cool. I've been highly aware lately of an important niche in my carry needs for a very lightweight folder. All summer long, I'm looking through my drawer for lightweight knives to carry in my lightweight shorts. The Bugout looks like a slim sexy alternative to a FRN Griptilian.
I think it is really cool that Benchmade is promoting this as "The Ultimate Backpacker's Knife". That's a very important niche, and the Bugout seems legit for sure. But I think the real ultimate backpacker's knife is something I've been regularly pitching for a long time, a skeleton neck knife. Take the Nim Cub, and work the tang to look good naked, or put some slim FRN scales on it. Put it in a decent neck sheath that is Techlok compatible. Done. Easy.

Hmmmmm, 531-13X style, with Ti scales, some groovy inlays? Yeah...Yeah, that would be cool.0 -

Green handle with red thumb studs and barrel spacers?
Make the steel M390 and I am in.

I was gonna say a green version would be pretty nice. Green scales, barrels, and thumbstud. 0 -
With the similar specs in mind, I still prefer the overall look of the 531 (especially the gold versions).. Modified spear-points and coffin handles, much sexier IMHO
I was hoping BKC would release another 531 Gold or LE this year(been patiently waiting, haven't picked up any new knives since the last forum knife)..
Now, I'm wondering if the 531 will soon be discontinued?? Sure hope that's not the case, but glad I acquired multiple 531 golds when I had the chance..0 -
I agree that the specs seem very similar to 530/531. My 530-1303 is staying in my pocket for now. I wonder if the extra belly to the 535 blade will make it the better knife in practice.
I will have to hit the brick and mortars this weekend to see if I can find one in stock to play with.0 -

You said Christmas, buddy, that has to be green and red. I like your other options, too. Maybe they will reintroduce the knife of the month and they will all be 535s done up for a different holiday in that month. They could sell a multicolored grivory display case to hold them all.

Got the Bugout today & agree with Belch's review (though mine opening & closing doesn't feel gritty).
I compared it to both a 530 & 531-1501. Few observations:
1) I think the 535 is more comfortable in hand.
2) The nested liners on the 535 are shorter (my new biggest concern)
3) The inside of the handles have a raised checked pattern, guessing for structural strength.
4) Very un-flashy knife at first glance, but more you look it over the more impressed I am with the engineering. ( Less is more)
5) I don't like deep carry clips, but this one is more comfortable in hand than others. None the less I'll put split arrow clip on it.
6) On "downside" it wrist flips easier than the 530, so 530 still better Knife if your going to NYC.
To sum up very pleased with this knife!

thanks for the quick product announcement.....lol
a week after it was announced
Right? I don't want to be a Negative Nancy (but yet, here I go), and it's not like we're really entitled to anything here (like, you know, Forum Knives), but it seems odd that all we got here on the company fan forum was teasers. Retailers were selling these things over the past few days with more actual detail than we've gotten here. In fact, someone was scolded for talking about this, I believe.
We posted it here the same time we posted it everywhere else.. Key operative word being "we" in that sentence.0 -
Got my bugout today. It is a for sure keeper. Great little blade. Got a set of carbon scales coming for it this afternoon off a Facebook drop. 74.95 seemed like a smoking deal and it will be one solid knife in my rotation.
What torx is everyone using. I'm looking for something high-end that won't strip out the screws0 -

Also, I will add that I consider my Benchmade knives that have the DLC coated hardware (Axis bar specifically) to be among the smoothest I own. Mind you I don't own any made from Ti. I'm anxious to hear from Jason as to the reasoning for this... Was the 535 designed similarly to the 940-1 in terms of excercising every avenue possible for weight reduction? Why the Ti Acis bar if weight is negligible over a stainless steel one?
The Ti lockstuds are actually pretty sticky (with a significant wear-in period) if left raw or as-turned.
However, the DLC makes a huge difference, and takes one of the stickiest and turns it into one of the smoothest.
And the wear resistance was excellent in testing.0 -

I like the look and the price of the 535 Bugout- imo, it's definitely going to become a best-seller for Benchmade.
The blade shape reminds me of the 707 Sequel.
I do think that lock stick is a real concern for a Ti Axis bar, since it's a problem that plagues Ti framelocks.
With regards to the DLC coating, my only experience with a DLC coated Axis bar has been the 908-1501BK Stryker, and I must say, that was the grittiest Benchmade that I own. It took hundreds of opening and closing the knife, to decrease the grittiness. After a while, it does wear off- hopefully it's noticeable on the picture. I'm guessing that Benchmade decided to coat the axis bar to counteract any lock stick.
I'm like 99% sure that was just a black oxide lock stud.0 -
/|\ I've
1) two BKC's blue box
2) a Lion T6 on my key chain
3) several Wiha Torx tools
I usually, like today use both the blue box in tandem with the Wiha T6 that shaped like an S ( T6 one end & T8 on other)0 -

Haaaaahahaha oh man... I've been pushing that pronunciation the entire project.
Spelled like this: "Bugeaux"
At least in my head.0
