I really like the knife, now it is really elevated and classy. It is so rigid compared to the factory. I need to figure out how to weigh it. The CNC machined scales really made a difference in the blade alignment. My factory ones the blade was going to the left a little bit as soon as I installed these and put it back together blade was perfectly centered straight as an arrow. I need to figure out how to load up pictures to this place 0 -

I just saw that this was Knife New's new manual folder of the year as well. Don't let Jason see this though. If he keeps winning these awards, his head might start growing and causing him neck pain. Eventually they'll have to widen the doors at BKC HQ. Production will slow during construction. It will be a whole ordeal. 0 -

Gotta say, it is really difficult after a couple thousand years of refinement for a knife designer to come up with something that significantly impacts the domain. I think the Bugout does that. It is high-tech anti-tactical, but in a way that is actually quite tactical.
Interesting, the whole story as I see it...The 530, rather spit on by the "tactical folder" cognoscenti for its thin blade and partial liners, but staying in the lineup year after year after year, hmmmmmm. Then the brilliance to come out with the 531 - now the cognoscenti are forced to pay attention when Painfully Meticulous testified that it cuts so much better than the Contego, and it has a rigid G-10 handle. Now the full evolution to the Bugout. Put one of these in your hand and you WILL believe it is the best light to medium duty cutting tool you own. Humble in its countenance, uncompromising in its performance, the Bugout will shift your knife paradigm.
It should have come out in G-10 of course, but that's okay, Jason. Nobody is perfect.0 -
/|\ PO had similar thought about choice of handle material, so purchased a quality aftermarket G10 handle. Now it still a really great knife but at higher price point & added weight. At the new price point & weight l’ve other Benchmade’s ( like a 940-150- & 940-1) and customs ( like my Terzuola Microstar) that it has to compete with. So for me the stock Bugout price point & weight fits a niche not easily filled.
As I posted above really like to see one at 85% to 90% ( under 3”) would serve even a broader need for carry in lots of big US cities.
Also thinking of buying a CF handle to bring weight back down to original.0 -
With my scale and clip combo we bring the knife way more rigid and drop UNDER the factory weight. Ultra Light buggy 0 -

I see your point, Bill, but I think you mis-calculated a bit. A 940 costs $185, while a 531 costs $136. So a G-10 Bugout would still be almost a half-C note less than a 940.0 -

Let’s be clear we both like the Bugout & I expect within a few months I’ll have several ( standard, G10 & a CF).
My Microstar was my EDC & traveled with me all over the USA & some trips to Europe before 9/11 and the restricted ban on knife carry on a plane. I’m not putting a Microstar in checked luggage ( prices have tripled & more importantly Bob T not taking orders on them). Regular Bugout great knife if gets lost or stolen should be easy to replace ( like the 940-1)0 -

Oh yeah, if you have to go aftermarket, that puts you near to over $200 for sure, but Benchmade could do it for under $150, pretty sure, even with S30V.

I don't have a 490 for pics, but one on-line dealer lists the Amicus handle thickness at 0.48" and the Bugout at 0.42". 0 -
Thanks Po... I really like the Amicus' s overall package, but it seems like the Bugout might offer a couple things that keeps the 490 out of my pocket most of the time (specifically grip texture and that darn pinky bump). I just wish there were more options for thin blade stock and thicker, rounded handles, specifically in this size range... and custom scales almost doubles the price.
How about side by side pics of the mini Barrage?
Any chance of a C20V or comparable steel offering?0
