That saw is always in my my pack. Bonesaw + wood saw.
I carry it with me when I hike because I usually wander into the middle of nowhere, and before heading back, I stop and build a fire, just for practice really. Then I sit and have a bite to eat. Very occasionally, after lunch, I'll even practice making a shelter. Non of this is necessary, it's just something I do. Been lost in the woods before back in the day, and now these hikes serve as a simple practice excercise. Takes the anxiety out of being lost if you're already used to being comfortable in the wilderness. I usually purposely hike back in the dark, for an added challenge. So the fire building excercise is good pracice, but it also takes the chill off when hiking outdoors for 4/5 hours.

No country for old men immagry. I also like the dark and the outdoors. Nothing to fear in the dark but your imagination. It's very empowering to hike at night and just let the quiet awaken as you move through it.0 -

Absolutely, a little firecraft makes for an interesting and enjoyable lunch break. I carry a small lightweight wood burning stove, and a small folding saw is useful enough to justify the weight when it comes to making fuel the right size for my little stove.
