Wow, I had no idea you could get color and pattern like that from ray skin. Is the color and pattern dyed? ...beautiful.
I believe that it's natural. Dan was looking for some blue for a Dawson dagger, but never found it. I have a green sheath for a tanto that I can post next time I'm on the computer.0 -

The dimply texture is natural, the colors and pattern are not (except for the white diamond).
However, there is a leopard ray, as well as a spotted eagle ray. I've been searching for a skin from the latter for years. Not easy to find without traveling to the coastal areas where the locals will catch them for ya.
Normal ray-skin can be purchased dyed in the spectrum of colors. Lots of different patterns, too.

Either of those would make a nice sheath for a FIXED BEDLAM.0 -

Cool shi+, guys! Thanks!0 -

I apologize. The colorfastness had me fooled.
There are other patterned stingrays, especially freshwater varieties and blue spotted. In any case, it's hell-for-strong stuff. Something like 25X stronger than cowhide.

That's for damn sure. Tough as nails, too. I've made a couple of things from it. I'll try to find pics.
Also very tough is shark skin. I have some legit cowboy boots in shark that are like fabric G10!0 -
