    /|\ Jason named it a 945.

Warren Osborne actually made a 75% version in his customs. I’d expect the 945 blade to be 2.9” & to maintain the graceful lines the handle neeeds not only to be shorter. Height & width reduced too.

    If you want 2.9 “ & chunky track down a 705

Seems we have been asking for this "945" Mini Osborne for years.  It would probably be a huge seller as a lot of places sub three inch blade laws.

    What do you say BM?

I couldn't wait  I took this one down to 2.99" blade length I love the knife.

Any link to that Osborne picture you mentioned Bill Hammer?

Have you any pictures of the knife closed? To see what it looks like in the handle.

/|\ Sorry no pics. Years ago ( like when the NYC Knife Show was actually in New York & not Jersey City)  Warren had custom versions of the 940 ( linerlocks with Ti handles with file work) plus a second identical except 75% the size. He let me pick them up when I showed him I was carrying the BKC model. I told him while beautiful I preferred plain knifes where beauty is in the lines of handles & blade without embellishments.

He said he’d be all for BKC producing the mini, but expected it’ll only be done when sales of the 940 fell off.

Lastly, he pulled out a 940 with a pink handle & on blade it’s engraved “pre- production 002 of 1,000”. He told me when he was working with Les & Roberta, they made up six 940’s with different colored handles. I got the impression it was Roberta who made the final decision to go with green handles for production.

I don't recall, but did you discuss Foray 698 as alternative?

Thanks Bill.  I wonder sells of the 940 would actually increase if they released a mini / 945 as people would want both sizes.  Those are nice colors.

Yes, the over-3" blade is the only reason I've never gotten a 940 though I've liked them for years.

/|\ a940-1 is so light & well balanced I prefer carring it to sub-3”.  Only exceptions are

    1) legal (city knife law like DC , Boston, Chicago) prohibited

    2) pocket size limitations ( watch pocket in brand khakis I wore for business casual was too small for 940 so carried Mnandi in that pocket ) The 940D2CF went in a zipped security pocket in jacket.

The 940 is so flat it prints less in dress slacks than 90% of knives out there. ( props to 530 & 535 on this too)

I feel compelled to mention the 781 as well.  Serious contender, solid knife.  The Anthem has a 0.43” handle thickness, vs the 940-1’s 0.44”.

Hmm. Someday I'll go to a knife store and actually SEE some knives before I purchase. Been looking at that one for a long time!

Mnandi, nice, that came out about the time i got a similar william Henry, always been curious about that too.

(don't worry benchmade you're still my main squeeze but a guy likes variety sometimes)

Come on Benchmade it’s time to make the jump and release the 945

Yeah , just make it already.  A 945 that is slim. thin, and small about 485 size but lighter with 940 shape. Any preferences on blade steel and scales? I just dont want Al or black G10.  Thanks BM!

/|\  Even that way DOAT will provide aftermarket handles 😁👏

NOOOO! He's already killed me with all the 940 scales I purchased plus we need something nice and  new from from factory for that 945.  Yeah ,your right . We would probably all customize...if they make it already!,

    I'd love a 945 (or a 948).  Micarta scales?  M390?  Oh, man...

    9450DLC M390 Micarta black & dark green?

    With matching 9400 of course

/|\ with the pocket liners of the 94Xs it limits the handle material that can be used. Not sure Micarta is as strong as CF & G10 to use.

Is there a ballpark minimum thickness for Micarta?

Thanks for the response. The extent of my Micarta knowledge is how it feels in hand. Might have to do some searching

Apologise for going a bit off track

I think a "Mini 940" is a fantastic idea! I know I would jump right on it. We do not have a 3 inch law (afaIk), but I really like folders with blades in the 3 inch range.

I'm thinking a 'Mini 940' would be a great seller.... just like the 'Mini Grip'.

Yeah, not sure if micarta would be strong enough, but I think I remember seeing some 940 scales by DOAT
