What's underneath the black coating on small Ritter?

    Wouldn't matter, you'll sand thru the underlying finish anyway unless you can find a chemical to dissolve it (and I don't know if that's possible).

    That would be a cool 2-tone! But frankly I doubt they spend the time/$$ to s'wash coated blades anyway, as you would see no indication of the s'washing after coating. I suspect they just coat over the fine N/S grindlines (can't see those either after coating).

    I wish my black Ritter was stonewashed.

    mine is stonewashed but it's a different steel than the black coated.the black coating probably keeps the blade from rusting!

    Eh.....My black-coated Ritter is S30V -- same as my stonewashed.
