What's underneath the black coating on small Ritter?
If I removed the black coating on a small Ritter, would I find that underneath the coating the blade is stonewashed?

Wouldn't matter, you'll sand thru the underlying finish anyway unless you can find a chemical to dissolve it (and I don't know if that's possible). 0 -

That would be a cool 2-tone! But frankly I doubt they spend the time/$$ to s'wash coated blades anyway, as you would see no indication of the s'washing after coating. I suspect they just coat over the fine N/S grindlines (can't see those either after coating). 0 -

mine is stonewashed but it's a different steel than the black coated.the black coating probably keeps the blade from rusting! 0 -
Eh.....My black-coated Ritter is S30V -- same as my stonewashed. 0
