Custom Scales for an 805 user
My main 805 user had 806-901 scales on it, which are much grippier than the sculptured/contoured scales of the recent 805/806 LEs. But while the grip was adequate I got tired of the black, and wanted to try some coarse peelply G10-- both for color and grip improvement. DeathOfAllThings made these for me:
Coarse PP is only offered in black, orange, and earth brown-- didn't want black nor orange on this one so went w/ the brown. Standard 5" scale sets not long enuf for 805/806s so I ordered a small sheet, and cut my own. To eliminate the fine horizontal thread lines I cut the scales on a 45-degree angle to the threads, giving a coarser appearance on the knife. Only get 2 scale sets out of a sheet that way, but worth it:
I have the remaining set of scale blanks available for anyone interested for the $10 I have in them, long enuf for the 805/806s but also of course wide enuf for 520s etc.
Death's work was precise, I'd go back for seconds! And I just might. Thanks for looking-- R.

I'd asked Death to leave the edges raw, which he did-- they are quite sharp. I'll take just the edge off that sharpness w/ some 600 when I get a chance, but the sharpness (especially on the bottom) really does aid grip IMO.0 -
Hey ryxlyx,
That does look so much better than black, I must admit I am so sick of the Henry Ford thing "Any color you wont providing it's black"...
I do like the color and the contrast, Congratulations...

Yes, the color is great, but what intrigues me is that I can tell just by looking that your new grips have great traction for the hands...great grip, if you will. That has been a deficiency of all of those contoured G-10 LE's. Heck, I have to put baseball bat pine tar on mine.

Are those scale blanks cut on the angle like yours? A tan/black 520bk-1101 would be cool!0 -
This coarse stuff really does have some grip to it. Surprisingly leaving the edges raw did give it a nice feel with some extra grip. 0 -

I do like the color and the contrast with the black clip, it looks very sharp Death (excuse the punt)...

Yes, also cut on a 45.0 -
Those look incredible, the 805 is by far my favorite Benchmade...
Where is the 805 M4???0 -
I could add that while the sheet was sold as 1/8" thickness the blanks actually spec .135" finished, better still for a 520. I had Death mill these on the 805 down to .100" tho, just a hair thicker than the .095" on the orig 806-901 scales. 0 -
The work looks very clean, I'm impressed. Milling the innards on Axis lock knives is tough too. 0 -
That looks awesome. Nice work; nice knife. 0 -

Very true, doing these made me realize how much I love the 805, I need to get one when I get some money.
Couple pictures I took... just because.0 -
Very nice work.... as usual

Looks fantastic. That color is really nice.
Is that a custom clip or did it come from another knife? I think I need one of those...0 -
That clip comes on a couple of knives at least. It is on the 810 Contego and the 275 Adamas. One thing to note is that the Adamas has bigger screws so the holes are bigger in the clip than they are in the 810. 0 -

Different is correct, clip from a 275. But even tho the screw holes are larger it tightens up fine-- the low-rider just seats the knife more comfortably for me.0 -

Yep. I have 810 Contego clips on all my knives.0
