a little 805M390 bladework

This is a bowl of Cap'n Crunch-- Knife River flint out of North Dakota to be exact. I use freshly cracked basalt w/ good results stonewashing both 154CM and D2, but basalt doesn't do diddley to M390. Out of exasperation I finally dug some flint chunks out of the flint box, hammered them down, and w/ the help of the M390 turned the flint into nice soft aquarium rock:

I had always felt M390 held an edge well but this project really drilled into me how resistant M390 was to abrasion. Was quite surprised. The Results:

There was more than a little acid-etching/masking/flatsanding involved in this project as well.

Lest someone think I'm not a fan of the 806 I thought I might as well show some 806M390 and save a future thread, this a work in progress (tho most of the work has been done):

Looks pretty raw here

but catch the light right, and you can see where this one is headed:

Need to "crisp up" intersections (back side identical to front), and take the blade faces, currently at 1000-grit, to a near-polish to match the polished half-swedges.

Oh my God! I love this thread. Keep it coming.

I carried an 806 today for the first time in a couple of weeks. SUCH a great knife. And sexy!

Ryxlyx, I'm pretty sure I bought my very first 806-1101 from you, years ago.

Well, it was to a Forum buddy who wanted one, that's why...
But I've never missed a knife more. That's how you know it's a winner.
I want one again. Lol.

I'm positive-- but it was an 805-1101. I'm proud to have provided the platform for your famous 805-and-1/2!!

Looks great.

This and APBT's custom CF..both w/ all blk hardware.. Love the way that looks...where you guys getting all the blk hardware?.. The 806BK-1101's had a silver Axis ... didn't it?...

806BK-1101 was ALL silver hardware, including silver liners (never made any sense to me). Posted these 2 shots earlier on another thread-- makes more sense to post it here-- my 806BK blade on the liners it should've had in the first place (these from an 806-901):

Benchmade will "blackout" (not including liners of course) on request, pretty nice.

BTW the original non-sculpted scales from my 806BK will end up on the polished 806M390 blade shown a few posts up-- didn't care for the bright-blue layers on those, a good soak in navy RIT took care of that....

This one in the pic looks great.. Brass stand offs?

Yes..RIT works great..

I just saw an 806BK-1101 on the bay ( not sure if it was current..was doing an image search)..Looks like ball blk hardware..

I think you're right about the black hardware on the 806BK come to think of it, it was the silver liners I was thinking of.

I made brass hexes for a few of my Presideos as well, I just think brass looks great w/ dark colors. Stands out w/o being too flashy.

Bought those 806BK-901 liners attached to the #57/400 805M390 blade that I opened the thread with. Never realized at the time how much I'd appreciate black liners till I'd owned a dozen 805-1101/806-1101s, and got kinda tired of silver haha--

And yeah, RIT is awesome stuff. Works great on nylon backspacers too! Just wish it worked on valox/noryl....

The brass is nice..I like the way it patinas..starts looking bronze if you donbt polish it..

I know what you mean about the polished liners...nice, but..blk coated are less seen and make for pretty dramatic statement for being so subtle a change...I remember first opening an 806-901..all murdered out...even the stand-offs..all business..... I think the Axis studs on that were silver too...but..its an awesome blade..

Ok, you may have mentioned it, but I must have missed it if you did. SO break it down Barney style for me ...where did you get those scales?...custom made or dyed by you?

Hey OBJ!!-- Both actually. DOAT made those for me couple years ago from coarse peel ply I supplied. I'd asked him to leave the edges raw, I just took the "sharp" off is all w/ fine s'paper. Grip awesome.

At the time, coarse PP only offered in black, orange, and (I forget what it's called) this reddish-tan, "earth" tan or something like that. I didn't like the reddish-- wanted an olive-- so I dyed them in navy for a bit, then soaked a long time in bright yellow (Y+B=green of course). Figured I had more control of the tint that way, worked out okay.
