Benchmade 53 Mangus HELP!
I recently got this 53 Mangus Balisong by Charles Marlowe. Some guy had it in it's drawer with the case and all with no use what so ever, no flipping no cutting no nothing.
THE PROBLEM: blade has some black spots (rust?) on it which i'd like to get rid of if possible. The spots look superficial but i was not able to remove them with stuff like wd40 and a soft cloth. I rubbed the blade many times with no results... maybe something went out but not much. The texture on this D2 blade is sooo damn beautiful and the whole bali it's a jewel. I'm not a big fan of balis but this one it's just beautiful. If anyone can tell me what to try on this without destroying the texture. Maybe rubbing with metal polish like Autosol and soft cloth or maybe 0000 steel wool? If anyone owning similar steel had similar problems maybe can share expiriance.
Thank you everyone for your time

Well D2 is a tool steel and will corrode. (It's high in chromium, 12%, but not quite stainless steel).
You could try some light steel wool or a lo-abrasive metal polish (containing jewelers rouge not pumice) and carefully go to work on it.
It will not simply wipe off.
Once it's clean use a Tuff-Cloth or your favorite oil on it.0 -
I recommend trying liquid bar keepers friend on a sponge, it works great at removing light rusting and won't scratch. You can pick it up at grocery stores or Walmart. 0 -
Interesting. I never had an issue with my 51 and I used to live in Orlando and carried it there..... 0
