So I just traded for a 880 Darkstar plain edge. Don't have it in hand yet but the pics I've seen sure look great.

Anyone have one or know how long they've been out of production? I'll post pics when I get it.

Not presicely sure, but would have been 2000 or 2001

I can attest that the 885 mini was around in 2000, it was the KOTM for August

Believe Po on to something refreshed with axis and M390. I have some around I though they had dual thumb studs, I din't buy single opening right hand knives. Back to safe deposit box

Thank you all for the replies. The knife arrived today and I am very pleased with this. It looks to have been sharpened but otherwise appears new and the lockup is early.

It has a very nice feel in hand and the overall size is great. I'll have to keep my eye out for a mini 885 now.

And yes, that is either a '99 or a 2000.

I think it would be kinda cool to see one with the axis lock (perhaps see if at all possible, to keep it at approxamately the same weight.

That said, on it's own, it's a great knife. Owned one for a few years. Nice lockup, and I really dig the ergos.

I like the name "Dark Star", so just like Stryker, I would love to see a new line that "Dark Star AXIS".

I remember when you could get these for a song on eBay back in the early 2000's. Benchmade DC'ed them and I guess they had a lot left over... Should have got one.

The Darkstar is completely different from anything in the current BMK line up. There is nothing that is even close, so thin and light that anything else seems oversized by comparision.

The only thing that comes the least bit close is the 530 (haven't seen a 531 in person yet, so can't compare)

Here's another shot of my 885 mini 'Bluestar' for the fun of it...
