Not very much, I just removed the coating and stonewashed it.0 -

I'd love to show off my customer knives, but I'll let them post them up if they feel like it. Here's some of my own.

This is one I made Mike2x but he doesn't have file hosting so I'll show it off.0 -
This is my standby home-done knife and one of my most favorite EDC's, my 710D2 'sans-BK' coating. Replaced, hard to see here natch, the plastic spacer for barrel spacers and while the blade was out polished the PB washers:

Thanks to DeathOfAllThings for another perfectly made set of scales. Now the 581 is how it should have always been.0 -

WOW! Me likey! So, does it not need the screws to hold the scales on?0 -
That's a confusing question, maybe I don't follow your meaning. The screws do hold the scales on, just like they normally would, they're just countersunk into the scales. 0 -

Ummm... that would be because my powers of observation are not functioning properly right now. The two middle screws are countersunk so deep I thought I was looking at empty holes...

they are countersunk a little deeper than normal. I'm not sure why he did this but I'm sure DOAT can let us know. I don't see how it can be the cause of any sort of issues though. In fact I think it makes them a little less noticable. Luckily ( or maybe he planned it that way deliberately) the screws ended up mostly in a black layer

also, my pictures are not too good. It was so cloudy today. I tried to get some photos of it stuck into the deck through the snow, but with the bright white snow the knife looked black. That is why the blade is all wet. Maybe if the sun comes out one of these days I can get some better pictures. These scales are way nicer in person than in my crummy pictures 0 -

Agreed! I got a look at these scales in person, and they are super nice!0 -

You can say that again! Deeply sunk screws into a black layer made me think they weren't there. Of course, with the small amount of sleep we've been getting thanks to our toddler not wanting to sleep through the night, I'm not seeing clearly to start with.0 -
I can say this about different's custom 581...I have always admired the blade shape and materials on those, but I could never get into the aluminum bolster, so I have never owned one.
Had they been released with handles like DOAT made for this one, I would have bought two.

Some more thanks to DOAT

They were sunk that deep because I did all 4 screws to the same depth. It's the thickness of the scales that change at different points. It just seemed to make sense to do them all the same when I was doing them. Perhaps I'll start going with a depth relative to the surface in the future, I can see how cosmetically that might be better.0
