The fobs with the skulls are to scare the enemy? Lol0 -
Iam the only one who has responded to your post here ......and
I dont like nor use any lanyards .......
They look ok I suppose , but to me its just something to get caught on something and pull the knife from your pocket and you,ll lose your knife.
There are lanyard lovers here I know ....... maybe there taking the weekend off.0 -
What up, TS. Welcome aboard.
Neither loved nor hated lanyards. Ive seen some Ive liked and on the right knives, think they are cool and practical. Im a blue collar guy, so pocket clips work for me most of the time. Always feared a lanyard/leash getting caught or snagged while working, causing the loss of knife or an inadvertent flinch at the wrong time.
Recently considering for a few. (maybe Im turning sissy) I think, for me, they would be helpful while wearing slacks w/ a knife buried in the pocket, as opposed to clipped to pocket.
Former resident of Gotham myself, heard its getting crazy there..0 -
Lanyards do have a place in the knife world.
A brightly colored lanyard on a knife used for camping can save you from loosing it in the brush.
A lanyard with a loop big enough to fit around your wrist can save your knife from accidentaly falling while working on a ladder, like eletrical work.
A good, stiff knot where it's attached to the knife can fill in the space missing for that little finger of the knife is a bit too small and the hand is too big.0 -
Usually I just make lanyards because I enjoy making paracord fobs.
They really aren't practical (or tactical) in my opinion.

I agree that they look kool , but again , if one is walkin in the brush (like I have before) it can snag on a twig and be pulled from your pocket. 0 -

Don't have it sticking out of your pocket and it won't happen.
A lanyard sticking out of you pocket for "fast deployment" may sound kool but just the same, somebody can snatch it out of your pocket.0 -

LOL .....I agree , lanyards have no purpose .....LOL

Thanks for the answers, debate, Photos and the welcome! Any more photos? 0 -
Laynards have a purpose- fobs appear to be up for debate... 0 -
What is the purpose for a lanyard ??? 0 -
to keep from dropping it on someone's head below - or losing it - sailors use them right? 0 -
quote:or losing it
No ....Ive lost a knife that had a lanyard.
Thats the reason it got lost , caught on something ....LOL
I suppose if you were on a boat with the lanyard around your wrist , you,d have a hard time dropping it overboard ......I can see the use here.0 -

some very cool beads, one.
I have one or two lanyards on folders that I don't carry (i think they're both ernie skulls). I have one of the new bm ones hanging on my rearview mirror too.
personally don't feel need for them on my edc folders, but that's just personal preference.0 -
Speaking of "lanyards" in general, or the Benchmade lanyard specifically?
I bought a couple of the Benchmade lanyards. They are pretty cool. They are on the heavy side, and are excellent on a bigger folder that you carry in your pocket, not clipped. The fob hangs out of your pocket and actually holds the knife up, and makes for a convenient draw. It only works well in that fashion for heavier knives though. Anything smaller than a 520, and the knife would kinda be overwhelmed by the size and weight of the Banchmade lanyard. The 810 would be perfect for the lanyard but unfortunately...no lanyard hole.Go figure.

I like lanyards/fobs in general, but they work on some knives and not on others. Most of my frequently carried knives will have a fob/lanyard unless it just isn't practical. In addition to the heavy fob carry I mentioned above, I like a short loop with a knot. It works as a fob, looks cool, doesn't get in the way, and I can slip my pinkie finger through the loop for extra retention. Works slick.
This pic shows my Mini Presidio w fob/pinkie lanyard, and a 520 BC with a Benchmade fob on it, no pocket clip.0 -
I love lanyards, makes it easier to get a folder out of the pocket. 0 -
I used to use lanyards and just quit. don't remember why 0 -
After all this, Im giving one to someone who collects scull art and one upon leaving the army. Both from Schmuckatelli- Mr nice guy I guess.... 0 -
I like too! Great to have paracord to wrap around your wrist so you don't lose knife when up high or over water. I also like adding them to a small knife as
A 3 finger grip can now be a4 finger grip. I never use the fancy beads, as can scratch knife & can make noise if knocks against knife or other hard surface0 -
Very genreally speaking, I like the ones I make, and dislike others.
I especially don't care for the one size fits all loop fobs. Has to be woven on to the individual knife for it to 'work' properly IMHO.

By the way, if anyone wants one let me know, I got a couple spares on hand. Just pay for shipping and I'll send which ever one you want...

It may be a bit getting away from what is being discussed, but why does some model doesn't even have a provision to have one? 94X, 810, 14715 H&K AXIS doesn't have it.
What's the intention behind it, I wonder.0 -

My guesses would be aesthetic design, or there is not enough real estate left on the handles where putting a hole would interfere with the tip of the blade. I think every knife should have a lanyard hole.0 -

Yeah, that seems to be one reason. I still think omitting lanyard hole is a design flaw. It should accommodate it as another bolt and make that into lanyard hole / tube.0 -
So many types, designs- an interesting art form! 0 -
Lightening makes excellent lanyards 0
