Lanyards - like? hate?

In the case of mine, the first diamond knot kinda acts like a bumper, being larger in diameter than the bead, plus the position of the bead away from the knife makes it so it doesn't really come in contact with the knife, this particular bead hasn't proved to be an issue with maring the knife itself but yep, I know what you mean though, there are some really large metal beads that can and do some cosmetic harm to the knife which wouldn't be very nice!

Never really seen the purpose other than a large one on a survival knife. I'd never put a lanyard on my EDC... Just my 2 cents

Tried a few lanyards on smaller knives like mini-grip. I found that they interfered with handling the knife (maybe since the mini-grip has such a small handle?). I like the look of a lanyard, but don't like how they felt in my hand. My opinion anyways

For mini-grip, I made lanyard into a fob, and used it to augment smaller handle.

For larger folders, I keep it as a fob to use as lanyard when I need to use where I might easily lose when it is wet and grip is unsure.

also you will see that just before the first diamond knot, I used a whipping tie to keep the lanyard from flopping around and getting into the path of the blade, makes it much cleaner and safer.

    Same with my Triage, I change it to this style also;

and here it's shown with the celtic bead slid up to my wrist.

I was just about to start a thread here to suggest BM adds lanyards to their accessory selection when I saw all these posts. If they're going to design lanyard holes in many of their knives, it only follows that they offer lanyards too but I haven't seen any.

For me, a lanyard should be functional. I have one on my ROKFORM "rugged" iPhone case. It's functional rather than frivolous as it's not a "design" or vanity accessory. It gives me a margin of safety when holding the phone to take photos so I don't drop it as Apple didn't make it easy to hold the phone and snap a selfie or an "usie" with one hand. The lanyard goes around the wrist for safety. It can easily be stuffed into a pocket to avoid a snag hazard or to keep it out of the way.

The ROKFORM lanyard is detachable with a plastic clip so it comes in 2 pieces. I'd prefer a clip that is more secure but I'm sure BM could improve on that. I like the idea of looping one around a belt for retention too, as mentioned above.

/|\ I’m pro lanyard. I have thong holes added to all my customs.

I’ve had motion from peddling my bike push the clip off my pocket & at end of the ride there the knife dangling by the lanyard from my belt. I also spend a lot of time around the water where lanyard make sense.

My preference is paracord as it’s strong & doesn’t scratch the knife. I’ve seen Benchmade metal squared beads with the butterfly logo on them for use with Paracord, I don’t have any, as I said above I don’t want anything that potentially will scratch my knife , side of the car or wife’s furniture.

I'm not even going to ask about your "thong holes" Bill!

Love lanyards on my fix blades (especially small ones). Hate lanyards on folders as I find they get into the path of the blade when closing the knife.

I know this is old but having just got a Chris Reeve Sebenza I do like their lanyard which is attached via a hole in the post rather than through the scales. They way they do it limits it’s range of motion so it never gets in way of operation (only when flipping it into a reverse grip) and looks clean.  I have to say I like it. A lot. Not that I’m going to start putting them in my other knives but certainly leaving the CRK one attached.

I personally consider high-viz lanyards a must-have on all work knives.  Neon yellow, neon green, neon orange - anything that will easily show up.

I was doing some slicing in the attic a few days ago and my knife flew out of my hand and landed in the blow-in insulation layer.  Fortunately, the lanyard was easy to spot and I recovered it with no problem.  I've had similar situations just doing simple yard work - set my knife down on the ground to grab another tool and then have a hell of a time tracking it down.

There are obviously other solutions to the problem, but I find the lanyard the best for me.

The "fasion lanyard" that's there for the cool factor with beads, etc...is something that I kinda like on some knives, but I can take it or leave it.  If I put on a lanyard just for looks, then I consider it more of a "bead holder" for a bead that you think is neat looking and enjoy carrying just for kicks.

Not a fan.  My personal view is they get in the way more than they help, and often get caught on things.

That being said, there ARE jobs where lanyards can help increase efficiency.  When that's the case I just make one out of Paracord of the appropriate length for that particular job and hang the knife from the clip.  When the job's done, slip the cord off, and hang it on a hook for the next time, and my EDC goes back in my pocket.

I tried using them, I really tried, but I wound up cursing the blasted things more often than not. So I am now completely lanyard-free and have been, going on 5 years now...
