How often do you rotate your EDC?
Hey everyone,
This morning my wife was making fun of me after she saw me trying to decide which knife i was going to carry today. She asked, why do I change all the time, its not that big of a decision? I know she was just giving me a hard time all in good fun but it got me thinking...I wonder how often other people go through this same ritual?
If I get a new knife I will carry that one until the initial excitment wears off. About a week to a month depending on how much I end up liking it. After that I'd say a change every three or four days. If I had a bigger collection to choose from I might change it more often.
So how often do you guys change up your EDC?

I change my EDC weekly usually. I have yet to carry a few of my new knives, sometimes I have an influx of new knives, other times Ill be lucky to buy a new knife after 6 months. 0 -

LOL...... My wife has did the same thing ......LOL
I just ponder between three knives though........usually the 940-1 wins hands down.0 -
Sometimes I,ll joke back and say "does this knife make me look fat"

One easy decision for me happens when I have to go somewhere in a suit or dress slacks. At that point, the 940-1 has been getting the nod every time because you almost forget you have it on you.
If I'm going on a long road trip I always pick one that has a flatish handle for my back pocket and isn't too huge. That might mean a Benchmade 710 or Spyd Manix 2. The both ride nice in the truck.
For times when hard knife use is almost certain, I have a special drawer of EDC's that I call "beaters". A couple of my favorites in there are a Benchmade Vex and a hard working Griptilian that has a D2 Camp Perry blade in a gray Valox handle.
For all other carry situations...which is most of them...I just open the two EDC Drawers and pick whatever catches my eye. That's Drawer 5: Benchmade carry knives or Drawer 6: Carry knives by any other manufacturer.0 -
Here's the cabinet that the knife drawers are in:
It was an old punch-card file cabinet that I bought at a second hand store and then spray painted it and lined all the drawers with new carpet. Total cost restored: About $150.000 -

I don't have an EDC, because I don't wear the same thing or go the same places every day. But if I don't have plans specific to the day, or if I'm not needing a particularly large or small knife, the 940S-701 or the 940-1 usually get the nod.
Larger "Let's go camping!" knife choices: 41SS, 41MC, 950-1201
Smaller choice: 530-13030 -
Fastj...I'm in awe.
I think all my knives would fit in two or three of those drawers...well, except for the swords.
I usually pick a knife and carry it two or three days, then my attention gets caught by a different one...on and on. Many times I'll pick a different knife several days in a row. It's pretty random, but I rarely, if ever carry the same knife for more than four or five days, unless I'm travelling.0 -
Holy schyte FJ, all those are full of knives???
You gotta give us a look, if the porn is too hardcore then I'll be happy with a private session through a PM
I rotate every...whenever I feel like it.0 -
Wow, FJ collect knife much Very impressive.
I don't rotate much. I have a knife for very much all occasion as many of you do.
So, it depends on what I am doing and where I would be.
Work Day Carry
Week day Carry
Week End Carry to start.
Depending on local knife law as well.0 -
I don't have any current pictures of the way the drawers are set up now, but here's an old one of drawer 5 that should give you some idea of how many knives these drawers "could" hold.
As for how they are set up now, they are not full of folding knives. Several have fixed blades which with their sheaths, can take a lot of room in a drawer. I also have a lot of non-knife stuff in there like flashlights, electronic knife/postage scale, phone books, knives that are still in their boxes, all my batteries and chargers...lots of stuff.
In this old pic, I can recognize about 4 Spydercos and a Chris Reeve in with some Benchmades.0 -
I usually carry the same one the whole work week. But it is forecast heavy rain I will take S30V and leave the M4 at home. I have a 707 I carry for church, since it is light and thin in pocket. After work I may take a 940 in clipped in. On the weekend it depends on what I am doing. May take a larger blade depending on the task.
My "knife drawer" is down stairs. I keep one knife upstairs for flipping while watching TV in bed. If I get a new one it goes there first to get broken in, then in pocket until newness wears off.0 -
Only a depraved, twisted and fevered human bieng can have so much cool stuff and totaly insensitive to the emotional (and financial) state of other human biengs sharing the same depraved, twisted fevered mind and total insensitivity. 0 -
Very poetic, Archer. I like it.

Is that thing full or anywhere close to it?? I think i hear angels singing and see white doves flying overhead. Its so simple and effective. It has a museum like quality like the collections of artifacts in the basement of the Smithsonian...ok maybe getting carried away but its just so damn awesome. Well done fastjan!0 -

If you like 940, you love 940-1. Get it while you can
