Don't limit yourself to the 3" blade limit, the 94x series are just right for a gents folder, I carry my 940s on formal occasions and it dissapears nicely in any pocket or waistband.

    Always wanted one, 482...

I'll carry a 586 with a silver split arrow or silver Contigo if I'm feeling spiffy.

Someday I'll have to pick up a Bradley Alias II. It just seems like a great gents folder. A buddy of mine used to work for the FBI. I always thought it would have been the perfect knife for him. I'm not sure how long the blade is. My Alias I blade is 3.5", so I'm betting on 3" or less. The thing is, the blade is substantial, not whimpy, and the knife is thin and classy...good enough for Jack Bauer, I'm sure.

    When I wear a suit, I carry a 710 or 806. But that's me.

The 94x carries well but the blade is too slim.

I forgot all about another knife I have.

It's a 525 with cf scales. So I guess that's my gents knife.

I've always liked the 690 for a dress knife:

I forgot about a knife that may fit the bill here. I never carry it because it's too small for me and is hard for me to open and close. It's a hybrid and I believe is a 707 handle with a 705 blade. Anyway, it's pretty slim.

3" blade limits selection. I am assuming you are looking for folder, right?

531 and Volli is .25" longer than 3. The 470-1 is 3" blade and Gentleman's blade.

As Archer has mentioned, 94X Osborne works well for me, since my blade length limit is 3.5".

For me it's either a modded 525 or my 14210-- but both are primarily utilitarian, first and foremost.

Too tiny for me to do much w/, but I've always liked the looks (and D2) of various 960s.

For a dress knife, I am a fan of the 480-1 and the 530-1303. If you are a lefty you have to flip the thumb stud on the 480-1. Benchmade can flip it for you.

I had a 582 and it is a nice looking knife, but the thumb stud cannot be reversed (the blade has a recess on one side for the back screw for the thumb stud) and the retention mechanism on mine was excessively stiff.

The 530 is 1/4" longer than you want, but it is very light and dressy enough in the carbon fiber.

TB, I have just wondered that too about 94X. Funny thing that 710 and 940 has same thickness of the blade. I think 710 is longer, so it makes it feel like bigger knife, but it is same at 0.115". Also Mini Presidio Ultra 527/5270 = 0.115"

As a matter of fact, it is 1000th of inch thicker than 950.
    950, 710-141, 746 = 0.114"

In this 3~4" category, here is blade thickness.

    Emissary 470-1, 530, 531 = 0.090"
    707, Mini Barrage 585, Volli, Emissary 477, 890 = 0.100"
    Barrages (580/581/583) = 0.121"

    904, 482 = 0.104"

My 707 with 705 scales is probably my favorite dress (it's thinner than either a normal 707 or 705 that way), 770 is also makes a nice dress knife since it's so small.

I also like this for such purposes:

I like 707, 470-1 emissary, and slightly longer but my favorite gentlemans knife is my 943!

    Maybe one of these?

But its Levis or cargo shorts 99.9% of the time.. So, will probably not carry 'em much.

This is more like it when going out.
