Or perhaps they had these issues from the beginning and were trying to solve them - and their roadmap said they'd try until early/mid 2012 and ditch m390 if they couldn't work it out (i.e. reduce the warped output to a specific percentage)

Hey B.O.B. ... I'd like to get on your list. Please put me down for one of these 707 LE's (satin). I'm a M390 fan. Thanks Much

+1 to that, I would take 1 for sure (M390 or M4). Most of my EDC knives are 3" so I definitely go for a premium LE 707. Count me in.

That is a possibility, I suppose. What is the thickness of the 730 blade vs. the 950 blade vs. the 581 blade vs. the 707 blade?

On the steel... I think a satin M390 would look better, but functionally, I'd be down for M4 or M390.

I would also throw a vote in to see this model come to life. Count me in.

I probably posted this earlier, but I'd be in for sure.

MCM reports, no M390 for who knows how long. I guess it may be quite some time till we see these, if ever.

Because it's a LE, and blue anodized aluminum looks awesome.

I wish BM would try this steel.
This is the area that Spyderco beats BM. That and Spyderco does more slicer blade designs , meaning flat grinds.

Or ELMAX or CTS-XHP. And I agree with you about needing more FFG blades.

The thing that's a bit of a puzzle to me is that Spyderco seems to have M390 figured out, while BM is (according to posts here) having problems with it.

Spyderco doesn't have anything in production in M390 right now, though, right? It's just been the Mule, the Millie sprint, and the PM2 sprint (although there's supposed to be another run of that later).

Also, I've noticed that several places are back in stock on all four versions of the 581 - makes me think that M390 is back in production for BM now, too. I wouldn't quite lose hope on BM M390 designs yet.

That said, I would like to try out some CTS-XHP and don't really care for any of Spyderco's designs with it at the moment... and there are plenty of BM models that I don't own yet that I could definitely see a LE with a new steel convincing me to pull the trigger on.

Yeah, as far as I know, Spyderco has only used M390 on sprint runs, so I would guess that overall Benchmade has made a lot more blades out of M390 than they have. Also, the cts-204p PM2 (Carpenter's equivalent of M390) is long overdue, so I'm guessing they may be having the same issue with that steel.

I would also love to see Benchmade use S90V on something...

    C mon Benchmade you can do it....let S90 V replace M390....

BOB, thanks so much for keeping us updated on the progress of the 707. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Are you allowed to let us know who the dealer on this one is yet? I'm assuming that it's not KW. Take care

    Oh, man. Great news!

I was this close to ordering something with an opening hole in the blade... definitely going to save my money now, though.
