94X liner change
Curious who has noticed the liner change in the 94x models. Contacted Benchmade and apparently this is how they will all be made going forward. Mine seems to exhibit more blade play than the standard. What are you guys experiences? I attached a photo of a disassembled one. Notice the omega spring no longer has a hole but a cutout and the milled out area around the omega spring is more square than the standard.

Thanks for making us aware of the change.
I don't see how this would impact blade play. Do you have a theory?0 -
Agree, shouldn't affect blade stability. Looks like it might be easier to get the spring secured this way tho, w/o the tiny hole. 0 -
That's my guess as well that it was done to save time in assembly. 0 -
Seems to have been changed to save a step in manufacturing. Milled along w/ the Axis cut out rather than a different machine/bit to drill..one less step/tooling/bit..
If more play/slop is inherent..that would be unfortunate..
A step in the wrong direction..score one for the bean counters.0 -
I emailed Micah at Benchmade to ask her about this. I pasted her response below. Seems you are correct that it was to make manufacturing easier. I don't know why it would affect blade play but the two I have handled did seem to have more then I am used to.
Thank you for sending the photos. I was able to get some input from my engineering team and this is a recent change (within the last year) to simplify manufacturing processes. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Have a great day!0 -
It doesn't affect blade play. I'm guessing it's either a coincidence or there's some other factor at play.
The remainder of the liner is unchanged.0 -
Perhaps its because I'm comparing them to liners that are "broken in" and have dialed out this issue. 0 -
As the knives break in, they certainly do tend to lock up a bit more smoothly. This is simply due to the lock stud slowly polishing the critical faces of the blade and liners. 0 -
Update. Received another knife with the updated liners. This one locks up a lot more solid like what I'm used to. Perhaps I just got a dud. 0
