Oh dang! The axis Stryker? All those pages of asking for it has come to fruition. Now it's time to pony up and pay the piper. 0 -
I wonder if the Stryker is still tip down carry? Wish they would have used a better steel for it too, the steel isn't a deal killer but if it's tip down carry, I'm out. 0 -
Ummm.........Nakamura looks ok to me 0 -
Not yet, headed there now...
Thanks TB0 -
Fixed Contego seems like a natural. S30V interesting choice. And no aggressive jimping either!
I like that the Nakamura is M390. Am I the only one who thinks it looks quite Snody-like?0 -
It definitely has a lot of similarity to the Snody stuff and HK. I like the handle.quote:Originally posted by Diamond:

I hope this isn't the extent of the new stuff for the year. If so I'll end up with more money in my pocket anyway.... 0 -

I like the knife and agree the blade resembles a Snody design. But I think the knife is too small.0 -
If that Stryker becomes available in a spear point instead of tanto I'll be all over it! As of now.... Meh?
Edited to add.... Probably still going to buy one though.....0 -

That's what I was thinking.0 -
Blindsided by that 484 Nak..Ill probably try one. Hpoe axis stryker comes in a spear point. 0 -
I really like the look of the 484. Does anyone know when these will be available? 0 -
woah! I never thought they'd actually listen to us and make an axis Stryker
That 484 looks interesting too.0 -
For 810 fixed, I feel better with M4 (no pivot point that may have minor corrosion) if not M390. But again S30V is not something I dislike, so I might get this.
Love additional 1 inch of the blade from folding sibling. Love G10 Grip.
I like Stryker with American Tanto. It does have "Triage" like handle.
484 Nakamura: Love M390 and weight less than 4oz! I wish the blade is 3.5" level. Handle seems a bit tight at 3.95". I would love to have it half more inch.

None of these are doing it for me, hopefully there's more to come. 0 -

Tip up. And from the looks of the holes, deep carry clip.
Frankly, the only one that appeals to me is the fixed Contego, and at that price, I can get the Bushcrafter, which is a better design for outdoors use.0 -

This will be the only time I would say this. The Axis Stryker could be the only thing to come out this year, and I would be happy...0 -
Nakamura all the way ........
I cant believe there posting these before the shot show ??0 -

Funny ....I like the handle better than the blade ........I love the blade steel though.
The blade steel is the main reason Iam gettin it.0 -
Just measured my (Snody) 14210 (3" blade for those unfamiliar) across the bottom-- about 3.75". 484 is 3.95"-- but that's total-- across the bottom, looks to be maybe a hair less than the 14210. 14210 fits my average hand great-- but that's cuz I can slide my fingers backwards underneath, beyond the end. W/ 4 finger cutouts on the 484 not allowing that methinks way too tiny, for me. Again-- average hands.
Unlike most 3" knives (not enuf handle) I LOVE the 14210, and something similar yet a bit fancier gets my interest. But I paid $99.95 new for the 14210-- w/ new pricing I would imagine (w/ better steel of course, for which I'd happily pay extra) I'd guess a satin 484's gonna run 2 bills anyway. Worth twice as much as a 14210?? (and that's IF it fits my hand)-- rather doubt it....0 -

Ditto to what DJ said. I also agree with Trailboss & Rxy that this knife is a little too small.0 -
I think it's too small as well. It might ne usable but when you stick those little finger bumps on there it just doesn't work for normal sized hands. I found the 300 very uncomfortable because I had to put my fingers in specific places where they didn't even fit. The handle on this one looks too blocky, too. I will definitely pass on this one. 0 -
Yeah, I think that's too small of a handle to have finger cutouts, they just don't fit right on a knife that small.
I would like to get a better look at one though... m390 and an axis lock is usually enough reason to buy a knife

yeah the specs look good but if you need to be a midget to use it then it doesn't work for me 0 -
Well, exciting that Benchmade gave us a little pre-SHOT show shot of some of the new models for the year.
One note of approval, none of the three new models on the web site have a flat slab handle, all have contoured or milled handles. Nice!
Some quick thoughts:
909 - Buy
What a treat to get the old Stryker back in Axis format. I'm happy with the fact that it has the tanto blade. It is rather historical and nostalgic. When the Stryker first came out it was such a fresh take on the tanto blade shape. This knife reminds me of that old "tactical" excitement. For me this knife will be more of a novelty carry anyway, since I consider the 551 and 520 both superior designs.
I like the milling on the handle scales, looks nice. I was kinda hoping the scales would be thicker than the old flat scales also, but doesn't look like it (.46"), appears to be the same as the 916.
484 Nakamura - pass
Looks like a good knife, but I'm just not that fond of thumb ramps, especially on smaller knives. I think Eric's comparison to the 14210 was telling it like it is. Why have four finger spots on a three finger handle?
Blade looks good, but kinda derivative, very similar to the Skirmish, 913, even the 14210 minus the recurve. Steel is always a secondary issue for me. I won't buy a design I don't like just because it has good steel...even if it is the best steel.
I note that the handle on the 484 is thicker than the handle on the 909.
Still, overall, a great looking knife for someone who is looking for their first knife in that size range. If I get the chance to handle one and fall in love with it, then maybe.
Fixed Contego - buy
Hmmmmmmmmmm...very interesting.
I gotta ask myself, do I like the Contego enough to invest in a 5" fixed version? I don't know, but will prolly buy one just to see what it's like. I like the 810, but haven't had a chance to use it hard to find out what that handle is really like under pressure.
The Contego design is certainly an interesting one with those flowing organic lines. It is not a classic looking knife and I am more inclined toward the new hunter designs coming out. The 183 will have to work really well to take the place of my beloved 140HS. Still and all it is a bold step outside the box, and I am intrigued by it. I would have been more intrigued by a 5" folding super Contego.
I had the first reaction a lot of you have mentioned, why not M4...I think I know why not, one, price, that's a lot of expensive steel, and two good to have stainless steel. Still, will keep my ear to the rails for an M4 LE in the future.
What, no thong hole?

I agree with you here. Kinda wonder about the length though - it's a hair too big for <3" legal localities, so they might as well have gone to 3.5" or so. quote:Originally posted by something:quote:Originally posted by dj:

904 mini stryker.

A few new ones on the new list... Keep em coming! 0 -
So happy to see the Stryker back with the Axis lock! That makes my year
Don't quite understand why the (folding) Contego would be in CPMM4 for its toughness (at least in part), but then the fixed blade uses a less-tough steel, when fixed blades will, in general, be used harder.0
