Thinking about Bugout 535-4
I’m looking at getting my first Bugout. I have my eyes on the 535-4. I think it looks pretty amazing. I like that it’s M390 blade steel. I like the looks of the aluminum scales. I have questions. Will the scales get scratched up from carrying my keys in the same pocket? How well does the coating on the blade hold up. I really want that M390 steel, but not a big fan of the coated blades. I will be carrying and using this knife.
My second choice is the gray G10 scaled S20CV that’s a BladeHQ exclusive. I like the steel on that one and it’s not coated. But the scales are a little light colored for my taste.
Decisions…

Great choice on the 535-4.
I think it’s the best Bugout yet. Love mine.
Most of us here do not like BK coat nor serrations.
But the 535-4 on some did come with the DLC coating which is a MUCH better and durable coating.
If you don’t like th grey scales change them.
Bugout scales are cheap and come in every color.
Plus lots of aftermarket scales available as well.3 -
No way to keep them pristine.
As everyday users, alum scales will show some wear over time. Same with coated blades.
it’s great to have knives that show use and wear.
Buy a double if you want a clean one for later 👍🏼1 -
Yeah, it won’t be a safe queen. I will rotate it as my EDC with a few others. I will cut things like boxes, tape, zip ties, and stuff like that. I think I will order the G10, 20CV from Blade HQ.

I bought the G10, 20CV Exclusive from BladeHQ. I do like it. I got a good one. It’s centered nice. Locks up good with minimal blade play. It doesn’t quite drop shut, but I put a couple of drops of oil on it and I’ve been fidgeting with it a little bit. It fits my pocket good. Another home run from Benchmade.
