first 940
i am about to purchase my first 940 , my old spyderco work knife is about worn out. is there any place out there i should be looking for a best price and not get screwed over with a counterfeit. REI is out of 940-1702 i have a ton of gift cards saved up and could soften the blow to my wallet.
if anyone from benchmade manufacturing is listening
i have used the 940 before, i like the knife . i've used the 810 contego and found it to heavy and the grip didnt fit me. if you could make a 940 long[er] instead of the little shorts, i am seeing everywhere. i'll be the first to buy one. my hands make the 940 feel short i just need a tad more length in grip and blade to match my old spyderco endura. i use a knife all day long on the farm and a tad longer 940 would be perfect, with the hollowed out backside, so the pocket lint crap and hay falls out.

Yeah I’m sure they’ll alter the design just for you.

If the 940 is too small, try something a bit more robust. Say, a Mini or full-sized Adamas. No hay would stick inside it, and it's built like a tank. Or a Mini or full-sized Crooked River. I gave my son, who lives on a farm, the full-sized Crooked River and he uses it daily.

my round baler has these tubes the belts roll on. when it plugs up and wraps. i may be cutting through a inch of grass 52 inches long.
locks and tips fail or snap. i love the reverse tanto swedged blade

Either a 710 if you can find one or a Crooked River or Mini Crooked River.

One of our forum members just happens to make longer, slightly wider 940 scales.

/|\ I think Tu’s given you the best solution. An alternative is finding a 950. The 950 a little bigger than the 940 & smaller than the 810. Below is a 940-1 (top), a modified 950 ( back finger grip removed in the middle) and normal 950-1401 ( at bottom). The 940 blade length is 3.4” & the 950 is 3.6”. Let us know what you decide on.

The modification on the middle Rift is truly the best choice IMO. I would even say sanding down the "waves" along the edges to make smooth cutouts on the top and bottom will bring out the best in the Rift and Contego (I see you did a very nice "knock down" on the ridges as well). It's interesting for the eye, but it brings the ergos closer to the smooth 940 cutouts which I think are the best of that general Osborne ergo choice, even though the knife becomes less "visually interesting". It's especially nice on the all black handle with the satin blade since you aren't really losing the alternating g10 colorway.
Nice job!

/|\ thanks MM. I didn’t do the mod, bought it on eBay. I did have Death of All Things modify all my 950’s by drilling lightening holes in the steel liners (ditto on my 819’s too). On the 950’s the lightening holes gives the 950 a better balance ( it’s no longer handle heavy).

I was going to mention the discontinued Rift 950 but I had already mentioned the discontinued 710
Both knives 710 / 950 and the CR and the mini CR are full liner knives.
A little more robust than the 940 and a bit heftier but not as much as the Contego.
I have a 710 like new with custom Ironwood scales made by Keyman that I would sell. Also the stock scales too. I have NO idea what the discontinued 710’s are going for though.
Let us know what you decide

The Presidio might also be in that range

I have bigger hands but also found the 810 Contego uncomfortable in hand. The fixed on the other hand is a great fixed with a reverse tanto tip. If you are able & willing to carry a fixed
