940's Frankenknife
I bought my first Benchmade at 18 years old and it was a 690. I loved the look of the the carbon fiber and wood combination of the handle scales. Sadly, it was stolen a few months later and I ended up replacing it with a 941BC1Red. I ended up selling that knife a some years later (along with several other knives) to help me with down payment on a house.
Recently I saw the 940-1601 and really liked the look of the handle design, but I have always been repulsed by the aesthetics of the 940 reverse tanto style blade. So, I bought a used 943B (would've preferred an uncoated blade but oh well) and decided to swap the blades. I was a bit disappointed in how dark the stabilized wood on the 940-1601 bolster was and found a copper replacement for it. I think I'm going to change the screws to copper or bronze next.

Looking good Mike!
You can get an entire Ti hardware kit from xxxadrenalinexxx on his website or on eBay. He does them up in a number of colors including the Axis bar.

I did see his website but chose to go with Rockscale Design. xxxadrenalinexxx is located in Australia I think and Rockscale is in Orange County CA (only about an hour drive if i want to pick in person).

Rockscale Design makes excellent screw sets as well as a number of other customization parts including awesome scales for BMKs.
xxxadrenalinexxx is located in Australia and also makes some very nice quality components. You'll also find he has custom pivots, pivot screws, blade stops and axis bars that you won't find anywhere else.
I've used both in combination to do some nice customization work to a few 943s.

One of my favorites!

I guess the scales on the 940-1601 are slightly thicker than the original BM940. The scale screws that I ordered from Rockscale Design are 0.1385" on my digital calipers and the factor screws are 0.173". The ordered clip screws are 0.208" and the factory clip screws are 0.213".
I live about an hour away from Rockscale. So, I emailed them to ask if they even have the screws I'm looking for in the correct size and to see if I can exchange them in-person. We'll see what they say

/|\ the width of the 940 is .41” in comparison the 940-1 & 940-2 widths are .44”. I’ve never had problems switching around the clip screws but the screws that hold scales to the liners on 940’s are shorter & usually too short to secure the handles of the 940-1 to its liners.
XXXADRENALINEXXX sells the proper size screws for both 940 & 940-1 - you have to tell him which knife the screws are for.
Jason French designed the 940-1601 as a Cabelas exclusive and as it has standoffs like the 940-1 I am pretty sure ordering a set of Ti screws for the 940-1 you’ll get properly sized screws for the 940-1600. Before you order you could PM Jason French at Benchmade so he can confirm the 940-1 & 940-1601, use the same screws.
Please keep us apprised of you custom project. Good luck & enjoy!
