Stolen 940BK, questionable replacement
Hey guys, hope you can help me with this. I got the 940BK Osborne Green Handle as a gift from someone very close that has since passed away. It meant a lot to me. It was recently stolen from my car. I looked at the reputable sites and it’s no longer available. So I purchased a replacement from eBay for $190. https://ebay.to/3AYWihv
Thing is, I noticed not so smooth mechanism and a bit of side to side knife play. After some googling I found out there’s a lot of counterfeit Benchmades out there. News to me. So I called Benchmade to see if I can send it in for authentication and they said yes, but that fakes are not returned. I can’t risk losing the knife and a lot of money. Can you kind folks please take a look at the pics and help me out?

It’s fake. File a claim on eBay and report the seller.

Welcome to the forum Dima!
Jon is correct. You've got a counterfeit there. Definitely file a claim.
I'll PM you with details.

/|\ Dima, I’ve a lot of 94X’s, but just one with green Al ( the original & it’s in LA with my daughter). It looked like a good fake too me but I wasn’t 100% sure.
If I may suggest send it back for a refund. Then buy a fake 940bk for $25 to $50. The fakes don’t feel bad in hand ( after all it is an Osborne design). Biggest difference in real & fakes is the lesser quality knife steel the fakes use. If you like the look of the 940bk the fake has the look, you’ll just to sharpen it a whole lot more often. In addition to getting a $25 fake, I suggested buying a real 940 ( me I prefer non- blackened blades as they don’t look awful after use). If you really want to duplicate what you had with an upgrade in steel then also buy the Blade HQ exclusive 940 with black M4 steel & jade green G10 handles and swap the blades. If it is the black blade & not the Al handles you care for you could just buy the Blade HQ exclusive and Rite dye the handles any color you desire.

I own a few 94X's
but I've been kinda 'out of the game' since all the counterfeits hit the scene...around intro of the 940-1 era. I just couldn't keep up with spotting counterfeits. I still can't spot what makes this one fake. They are getting too good.

Choil cut, Scale and backspacer colors when it comes to the knife itself.
And yes they're getting better all the time making them harder and harder to spot. I spend a bit of time looking at the known counterfeit sites and take hard looks at what they sell comparing them to models I own and photos on authorized retailers to pick them apart easier.
