Osborne 940
I’m new to collecting knives. I bought my first bench made Osborne 940 and I really like these knives. I’ve been looking at different ones that Benchmade has come out with.
I saw one that they came out with in 2002… It had red aluminum handles. I’m not sure if it was a knife that someone put red handles on or if Benchmade did make one that year with Red handles.
Does Anyone know?
Thanks!

If you call benchmade directly they could tell you for sure what year the red handles came out.

That sounds like the right time frame for the colored knives. Most were done in Special Editions. The 941BC1RED was a run of 500 knives.
You can checkout some examples of the colored Osbournes in my Gallery link below.

/|\ Big Steve welcome to the Forum.
In addition to Mr. Winks collection you could check out the post titled
“Whole 940 Family”
I just bumped it to top in the section up top
”Benchmade knives & tools”
In addition to the red 941, around 2002 Benchmade made a lot of limited runs of 940’s with different colors including so splatter pattens.

What Scott mentioned above.

While not the reverse Tanto of the 940 a nice pointy clip point!

Thank you everyone for the information. I love the knife Tim….that’s the red I was talking about. This is the exact knife that I would love to find.

Steve, that one is a "Special Edition" 940 in Red Anodized Aluminum with a Blue Anodized Titanium Backspacer in 154CM Steel. It sports the old "Antennae" style logo. Only 100 were produced in each variant of Satin, (BT) Black and 50 each of Satin Combo and (BT) Black Combo back in 2001. If I'm remembering correctly.
Considering the low numbers produced you will be very hard pressed to find one for sale today and if you did it would probably cost a small fortune. But hey it would be worth setting up a search for so that if one does pop up, you would know.
Good luck in your search!

/|\ Big Steve, I’ve a suggestion.
If you want a 940 with a red handle you can
1) buy the Blade HQ special edition with ghost jade green G10 & Rite dye the handle red. It gives you an upgraded M4 coated blade. Cost about $200.
2) if you want a plain satin blade buy either a940-2 ( approx $170) with S30v blade or splurge & buy the 940-1 for the S90v blade (approximately $270). Both upgrades over the 154cm blades on the original 940’s. Next contact DOAT( Death of all things ) for a red G10 handle. He’s started making Ti handles for the 940 so it’s possible he can anodized one red. There are others who make aftermarket market handles for the 940 you can look at their work too.
I’ve purchased many handles from DOAT & can highly recommend his work. There are other red colored handle materials , other than G10, he works with.I see Dragonfly Scales has a red G10 940 handle on their website ( $87) for immediate sale. He is a Forum member with excellent reputation & following ( ask Tu )
Tim ( as usual 😱) is right the cost of the 940 with red Al handles likely a $1,000 collectors item ( ask Tdogg). So if you can get past a red aluminum handle as a must for less than half the price you’d get a 940 with a red handle with upgraded materials. If this was my dream for a red handled 940, I’d do 2 at once - one for show & one to EDC.
Good luck in your pursuit of your red 940 & please let us know what your doing & pics of any finished red 940.
