Authentic or Counterfeit? 940-2
940-2 https://imgur.com/gallery/CxZbr9C
Purchased my first Benchmade (940-2.) Seller has a good rating and return policy so I took a chance on Ebay. Knife is new but listed as used due to "distressed packaging." Upon arrival I found nothing wrong with the packaging and the box/contents seem to be authentic.
Only problem I found was a small section of the G10 scale textured unevenly. I checked other threads and found this to be a common QC issue with this particular model. While not exactly impressed to hear this is a common issue on such an expensive knife, it's actually somewhat reassuring to see the same issue with authentic Benchmade's.
Others have said they've sent the knife to Benchmade to have the scale replaced, but I'd like to hear opinions whether or not it's authentic before sending it in.

Welcome to the forum HolyMackerel!
Uneven G10 texturing is pretty common across the line. I've noted that you'll see it occasionally across most manufacturers. If you're talking talking about the smoothed area below the Axis lock that's pretty normal. You might try cleaning the scales by rubbing them with Isopropyl Alcohol to see if it it makes the grain in the G10 even up and pop. Some individuals also rub Blue Lube on the scales to even them out to a smoother finish overall.
The white protruding through at the corner of the box could be considered distressed by some. I think the seller was just making that obvious.
I think its a legitimate 940-2. You should be good to go.
Enjoy your knife and hope to see you posting more here in the forum!

Mine was a little patchy when I bought it, but I like to think it's Benchmade's attempt at giving it a "distressed" look. It's pretty well worn smooth after 4 years.
