940BK-2003
I have a 940-1 and it was one of the cornerstones of my knife collection and one of my favorites. It really is one of the quintessential knives in its category. A true pleasure to carry and such a useful design.
That said, I've had my eye on the 940-2001 and the 940BK-2003. I haven't found a 2001 for less than $600 which seems crazy; however, the 2003 I can find for about $100 to $150 over what they retailed for, so about $550. I've found one that is a sub 1,000 production number in fact it's in the low 700s.
As far as I can tell it seems completely legit, box and all. It can be mine for $560 maybe a little less if I'm aggressive.
Help me out and let me know if I'm crazy of if having a 700 or so run of 2,000 matters at all. Regardless, is this version of a 940 worth it or am I better spending a little more for the 2001 which I like a lot as well.

/|\ didn’t like the looks of the 940-2001, but have all the others in your post. I prefer the 940-1 to those others. I rotate the 940-1 with a 940D2CF & a 940 with a DOAT’s coyote tan handle as EDC’s.

The actual production number you get doesn’t matter unless it’s 10 or under. I’ve seen many 2001 for mid $500’s and many 2003’s for mid $400’s.

I am found one new open box for $425 posted pics to see if anyone with more expertise than I thinks it looks legit. I’m fairly confident I checked all I could as best I could. Seller seems legit, but it is eBay.

It arrived two days early! Nothing better than coming home from a hike and seeing a box waiting to be cut open. Happily the grind is even, seems centered, perfect action. Yes!!!
