Emissary Small VS Large Handle

    Welcome to the forum Bubba967!

It is normal to see different finishes and colors with many models. I take it that you're talking about the "chalky" finish. Since the Emissary uses anodized AL handles its possible to take the finish down to a smooth finish. Easy Off Oven Cleaner can be used to remove AL anodization. You'll need to do a complete tear down on your Emissary for this process and only put the scales themselves in the EOOC. Note that this completely removes the finish down to raw aluminum. Once you have the finish removed you can take the scales to a polishing wheel and put a high polish finish on them. From there you could simply leave them like that or you could tumble them and do a stone washed finish on them. From there you could also re-ano them if you have the right setup. I can go into the processes more if you decide to move forward with your 477 mods.

Hope to see you posting more here in the forum!

Thank you for clarifying.  My first knife had the smooth finish and I ordered the second one assuming it would be the same.  I will just deal with it as I do not feel comfortable trying to mod the knife.  Thanks again.

No problem Bubba! If you're new to Benchmade you're no different than most of the rest of us. We all started with a stock factory knife and that's where the addiction started. After a while most of us all took our knife apart to clean it or just because we were fascinated with how the Axis mechanism worked and needed to get a closer look. The Emissary is not a difficult knife to keep maintained. Use it and enjoy it and who knows, in time you might decide to mod it.

the finish usually loses a lot of that chalky feeling as time goes on. both my 940 & 477-1 were like that new, can’t remember how long it took as it’s been several years but they do smooth out as you use em
