It appears that an unknown number of 940BK-2003s were released with black thumb studs and other defects Willy. Benchmade is sending out replacement blue thumb studs to those who contact Benchmade CS. Considering them as a defect wouldn't make them any more collectible especially considering that Benchmade is working with customers to resolve the issues.

Not rare.  Anyone can change the hardware on a knife and it doesn't make the knife more collectable.  The knife will always be the most sought after when it's in the correct stock configuration.

Ok. I understand. I know in other collectible industries, factory errors usually make items more valuable, sometimes significantly more valuable,  but I guess not in the knife world. Thanks guys.

    To Willy940,

These mistakes are correctable & being done.

Limited Editions, some times Benchmade changes a knife quickly ( e.g. the first production Victor’s had differ blade, the first year Bailouts with difference handle & blade steel- being limited #’s may be valuable some day. The 940-2002 with limited # are already going for a premium.

I do & recommend you buy what you like without using your knife collection as a 401k.

Appreciate it Bill!!! Are you referring to the 940bk-2002 blue G10 limited edition or is there a 940-2002 I don’t know about?

Yeah Willy he left out the BK part. There currently is only one 940 with a 2002 edition number and that's the 940BK-2002. Bill gets hasty sometimes. lol
