533BK-2 Mini Bugout First Impressions

What can I say? It's a Mini Bugout. Jason must have broke out the amazing Benchmade Shrinking Machine again as this little guy is just like the 535BK-2 Bugout just smaller!
The Plain Drop-Point blade is the familiar S30V Bugout style in the Mini format. With an under 3" blade (2.82") it makes for a great low visibility and lightweight carry. The Black DLC coating has the standard thicker Benchmade look to it so its completely non reflective. The edge on the one I picked up was really great. The bevels are dead on even the entire length of the blade and its definitely sharp enough to remove the hair on my forearm in one pass. Its has the more recent First Production Laser Markings with no production number on the steel side.
The handle is the same as its bigger brother's in CF-Elite again, just smaller. On mine I can just barely see the strands of CF within the nylon polymer. It's easy to see that it is more rigid than the standard Grivory used on the 533 and 533BK-1 Mini Bugouts. As with the other CF-Elite handles in the Bugout family you can hardly squeeze the scales together at all. The overall use of Black Oxide coated hardware and Mini Deep-Carry clip gives this blackout baby a great look!
Speaking of weight the 533BK-2 rocks the scale at just 1.5oz. It barely prints in the pocket as its so thin (0.41”) and is only 3.70” when closed. With an overall open length of 6.49” the 533BK-2 is large enough to do more than just open cardboard boxes. Obviously as its black, it really doesn't need any customization, not that you couldn't add a different color Ti hardware set. I like it just the way it is and will be keeping it stock. QC wise mine came a little on the tight side and I'll be breaking it in while sitting at my desk for a few days and then maybe adjust the pivot and give it a dash of Blue Lube if necessary. This one came perfectly centered with no blade play whatsoever. I've got no complaints at all with this little guy. I've been really happy with the Mini Bugout series and this one will easily find its place within my EDC rotation!

/|\ Thanks Jason ( for design) & Tim ( for review). Been holding back on buying a mini- Bugout because of terrible colors ( Jason’s school colors & the storm trooper).
This is a buy!

I’m a sucker for the stormtrooper colors. That was instant buy for me, but the all black is cool. Actually love the mini maybe more than my full size Bugout.

Just received a Mini-Bugout 533-bk . Knife is everything it should be . Sharp , centered blade, even grinds and no vertical or horizontal blade play. This knife will replace a small Sebenza and I fully expect it will fulfill any EDC needs I have. For reference the knife will allow me a 3 1/2 finger grip which is very comfortable for my large hands. This is the smallest knife I own and i have found nothing lacking in it. Highly recommended.
