Steel 101
Benchmade emailed me (& others I’m sure) an article on steel makeup & properties of different steels. The paper IMHO opinion was excellent - size of paper & detail - for someone like me who doesn’t want to get a PhD. in metallurgy.
I hope Benchmade can post it here or other section of the Forum to share with everyone. 👍🏻

My only issue is there definition of steel strength:
- Strength: A steel’s ability to resist breaking or shattering on impact.
Vs Wikipedia:
The ultimate strength is the maximum stress that a material can withstand before it breaks or weakens. For example, the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of AISI 1018 Steel is 440 MPa. In Imperial units, the unit of stress is given as lbf/in² or pounds-force per square inch.
Vs Wikipedia on Charpy:The Charpy impact test, also known as the Charpy V-notch test, is a standardized high strain-rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture. Absorbed energy is a measure of the material's notch toughness. It is widely used in industry, since it is easy to prepare and conduct and results can be obtained quickly and cheaply.
The strength (determined by tensile test) is more a measure of a steels ability to resist plastic deformation, not breaking or shattering on impact (this is toughness determined by Charpy test)

Their definition is just going along with their whole article. Basic, without going to crazy.

As mentioned in Blade Steel 101 Knife Steel Nerds has a wealth of information regarding steel used in knives. Common, New and Lost steels. A lot of good reading where you might find things you won't find anywhere else!

I use there site as a reference frequently. Also liking my new knife engineering book
