Sure, rub it in!

I did not include the link to the After Party because it was already sold out. It would have just been a "hey look what you can't got to", but everyone have a great time. I'm happy to see the show grow.

Your definition of bad (buying lots of cool knives) & mine are a little different. Maybe next year, unless they release a gold class Bedlam or Adamas weeks prior to the show

Very tempted by this Emerson fixed steak knife at Blade West today

Been fortunate not to have my knife enthusiasm get me in trouble. The boozing and carrying on till 4am definitely doesn't help if anyone is toying with that idea.

I used to get in trouble too. The ex was suprisingly good at spotting new knives. Would have made you think she'd be more into them.
Got rid of her, and now I don't have much trouble these days.
Or maybe just different kinds of trouble.

Doesn’t mind my collection, & she doesn’t take any for herself.👍🏻😀

I wanted to come up in the RV and stay Fri-Sun. I'd end up spending almost as much on gas (considering the the current price here in CA
) as I would on purchases at the show.

Sometimes deals come up that you just shouldn't "Just say no" to. This being the case I'll be waiting for you guys to post all those sweet knives you pick up at the show. While I really wanted to go I'll have to settle for supporting my knife addiction vicariously this time around.

Come January I'll set the dates as vacation days and make sure that I have an abundant amount of cash reserved for the show and travel.

Lady Tu is the same. Probably because she a shoe addiction that I've never said anything about. One of our friends commented on how she couldn't believe her mom had 50 pairs of shoes. She got inspired to count hers, she stopped at somewhere over 100 & still had another closet to go

Oh I wasn't in trouble. Just "addiction cash shy". You guys know that I blow my knife budget a few times over every month. That was the case "+" this time right before BSW. Mrs. O would have come along and would be buying her own goodies at the show. She's been supportive of my addiction and shares my love of a good blade and she has her own BMKs. As I've mentioned she loves to purse mine up when I've been up boozing and carrying on till the wee hours and end up leaving my knives laying around.

I'll have to let her know that this is how these things typically work!

I guess I should change my forum name to "KnivesforDiamonds".

Mrs. O's addiction is a little more costly than my own.

I wonder if there is a way I can get her to start collecting shoes again? 🤔

/|\ Hey Tu does she maintain that collection herself or does it fall to you to clean, polish & use leather balm so the leather doesn’t dry out & split ruining the investment.
Tu think of it as good practice for sheath maintance. 😉

Any comments on the show?
I heard a lot of vendors saying that this year was much slower that last.
I was wanting to find an Elmax domestic folder, no luck. Microtech had a couple OTF in Elmax, but there show special was so good i ended up going with that.
Had i been looking for a stout 3V fixed blade i would have had a good 75 options. Been thinking about making my own 3V fixed, so passed on them
There were a couple of nice custom bali makers, but maybe 20 knives between them & they all sold out in the first few hours.
Topps & WE had big displays, but I'm not a huge fan of 1095 & prefer to buy domestic. Smokey mountain probably had the best modern factory made booth. Chris Reeve had a small booth with only a couple knives, it was empty almost every time i saw it. One booth had a group of kids flipping there plastic butterfly knives the entire show. Emerson had good booth, only got the t shirt.
Benchmade had a nice couple of booths put together as one with lots of swag. Got a hat for wearing my Benchmade jacket. Lots of stickers and a couple of patches for anyone who wanted them. There booth is for display only, they sell nothing. They will let you know what dealers are there to buy from.
Probably 50%of vendors were custom makers. Mostly in Damascus or some other carbon steel. Roughly 20% of them used a premium blade steel

Thanks for the write up/review of the BSW show. I would have thought there would have been more sellers of knives using premium steels. Exotic Damascus is cool but from what I've seen doesn't have the draw of buyers as much as a good working man's premium steel.
Hope to see your 3V "Tu made" soon.

Elmax. It was used as inexpensive alternative to M390. Now a days M390 seems to be frequently used than Elmax. May be there are no reason to have two different blades as far as price point.
CPM 3V. Non stainless version of S30v being tougher. Personally don't see much incentive for the folders, IMO.
Since my state prohibits fixed blade carry (calls it concealed carry), I only have "camping blade". Again, it will not have specific reason to carry it for me. I already have tons of S30V variants.

/|\ Mobile Firelord, I believe we’re traveling the same path. I try to avoid non- stainless for folders ( I find D2, stainless enough from years of carrying a 940D2CF) as more work keeping pivot area rust free ( I’m not keen on disassembling pocket knives after every use). Fixed blades are easier to keep clean & thus non-stainless maybe preferred for toughness on fixed blade although I’ve been around salt water most of my life.
I wouldn’t use a lobster mallet to knock down walls, nor a sledge hammer to crack lobster claws.
No perfect knife nor steel for all tasks.
PS MFL seriously polishing all 8 surfaces 😀 good on you. I polish the washers ( quick & easy) and guess I’ve been satisfied with factory polish till now. This is going to keep me awake at night until I have time to do the 8.🙃

Tu thanks for the review. I did not make due to work.
It should be noted that The Blade Show is a Custom Knife Show first. Production manufactures play a part in both shows (especially local companies for the Portland Show) but Blade has always been a showcase for the "makers" so a 50%+ ratio of tables is normal. IMO opinion a custom knife is not as much about the steel as a production knife is. You have makers that sell a handmade custom slip-joint for $3000+ with CM154. They only make 6 a year. Where as production knives put more focus on steels to set themselves apart from the competition or for special limited runs and for the most part (present company excluded) a completely different market.
Just my view. YMMV.

Ya i get that it's geared more towards the custom makers. I guess I'm a little spoiled by some manufacturers who include a bit more science in the knives. I asked most of the custom makers about there steel. None were able to give accurate answers to basic questions of hardness & toughness. The most common reply to hardness was it didn't catch on a file, & toughness was either yes or no on batoning at best. I would have spent much more $$ there if i had more confidence in the steel. I only spent 40% of what i had brought to spend

Yea that was him. Happened around (I want to say) 2010ish.
With divorce rates between 40-50%, tattooing your wedding ring is never a good idea...

Did anyone see any custom scales for a grizzly ridge. I would go and look myself but I’m in Maine. If anyone sees any let me know the company so I can try and contact them.
Thank you.
