Ben there are literally hundreds of possibilities when it comes to aftermarket thumb studs available that will fit the 940 series blades. The bay is loaded with big, small, smooth and grippy thumb studs that should work for you.

/|\ Ben, I concur.
I know of no aftermarket options, so besides practicing with what we have, I’ve two suggestions:
1) file some of the CF handle under the studs ( like 0.015mm) would get same room as on a regular 940.
2) I’ve heard Grip studs work but haven’t tried it.
I you find better solution please share.

I've used a 22 shell casing on a grip. I think they are the same size

TU, how do you attach it? Great idea!!!!

Gorilla glue!

It's a snug fit. Just use any metal adhesive or epoxy. I went through a few to get the height i liked. Used a cut off disc on a dremel to cut it

I have a dremel and some good hot melt I may try first as it would be easy to remove if need be.

Thanks again guys for all the great tips.

i put 950 studs on my 810 because the regular studs seemed too small. then i returned the original stud on the back side of the blade because the longer stud kept opening the blade when i pulled it out of my pocket.
you can see the difference in the length. the one on the right is the standard thumbstud used on most benchmades, including the 940. on the left is the one from the 950.
here’s a front view:
i really like how much more traction i get this way when opening the knife. seems natural, especially with the large blade on the 810.
the only thing that i’m not sure of is wether the wider stud would come into contact with the scale on a 940 when closed as the studs are set much closer to the handle than on the 810.

Great idea using the 950 studs on your 810 Mrnobody! The notched shape and longer length seem as though it would offer a lot more traction. Looking at the diameter of the two it seems that they are pretty close. This configuration might even work on a 940 as the 940's factory thumb stud appears to be a little less than 1/16" from contacting the scale. Might be worth ordering up some to give them a try!

i can try it out tomorrow, feeling a bit too lazy to dig everything out tonight. gotta use a socket wrench on the 950 studs & mine’s allllll the way out in the garage. it’s the only set of thumb studs i own that don’t take a t-6 bit to remove/install.
interesting bit of trivia, at least i thought so. don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but, on my set at least, one side is 5mm while the other is 3/16”. thought that was kinda weird, but does make things a bit simpler as i didn’t have to dig out two socket sets to work on them.

Yep, sometimes I hate those long walks to the garage especially when I've got a knife on the operating table and thought I had everything i needed!

Nice bit of trivia there!

Yesterday evening I took a .22 case and cut it down and heated it up on a little torch and applied some Ferr-L-Tite hot melt archery adhesive used in installing inserts into the arrow shaft and voila! It now pops open nice and easy. I may have the case a little long but I can easily heat it with a lighter to get it off and cut it down if need be.
And hey BM if you are listening again, The 940-1 could use some longer studs,,,,at least for me.

Glad it worked for ya. I really liked it, just not the grip it was on. In addition to the standard brass casing, there is a shot shell casing in silver
