Mini 940
What is the interest in a "mini 940"? By this I mean a shorter 940, same thickness as the original just a 3 inch blade and shorter handle. There is a 3 inch knife law where i live. Considering how well the mini grip has sold?

I think a "Mini 940" is a fantastic idea! I know I would jump right on it. We do not have a 3 inch law (afaIk), but I really like folders with blades in the 3 inch range.
I'm thinking a 'Mini 940' would be a great seller.... just like the 'Mini Grip'.

Have you tried 698?

MOBILEFIRELORD, I'd like something 485 in size and under 2 OZ. The Foray is nice but isnt it over 3" blade and what 3.5oz. But 20cv or M390 would be great.
Shouldn't there be a 940-1901 and 02 out by now? Anyone have any news or rumors? A nice matching 945-1901 would also go great. They would sell in sets just like the Large and Mini griptilians.

First time caller, long time listener breaking my silence just in case more voices help to bring about action.
I, TOO, Would love a mini 940 or a 945, as it seems it would be named.
Micarta and M390 sound like a dream to me. I've been looking at the Valet as my next Benchmade which is a little more basic in lines, but is dimensionally correct. I like the shape of the 940 better, both the grip and reverse tanto blade.
I'm sure we could guarantee at least 1000 sold, so come on Benchmade, at least give us a sprint run.

@markg please move your post to the "swords" forum

I did try out a 94x this weekend, you're right, doesnt seem as big. Im not a fan of the almost stiletto blade though.
I did like the aluminum scales quite a bit, so much I searched and found the Sequel, a mini griptilian with aluminum scales, fantastic! Discontinued!? Boo!
Serves me right for getting away from the knife obsession for a while, look at what else i missed spending money on!

I also need a Foray now. This is an expensive forum!

It would be nice if Benchmade let us know if this is in future plans or not

/|\ I’d love it but sadly don’t believe we’ll ever see it. You may come across the custom some day ( it was liner-lock in Ti with lots of fancy file work by Warren. It was pretty but I really don’t like fancy.

/|\ Warren Osborne told me 15+ years ago at his table at a NYC Knife Show he’d like it but guessed it would happen until the sales / popularity of the standard size 940 waned.
I could make a case for why it would be a successful release for a 2.9” blade with many municipalities are put out laws for shorter blades.I think biggest road block maybe the royalties Benchmade would need to pay the Osborne family compared to cost of developing their own designs (hubris).😟

The Foray is one of my favorite knives (I have two), but it's over 3 inches - 3 1/4 if I remember correctly.

Oh, ok. Do you have local law prohibiting over 3", I assume?

The way I see this is that most likely, I will not use a folder that handle is shorter than Foray. It is just so uncomfortable to hold on to plain non-textured handle. Minigrip is usable when I have lanyard fob to increase the hold. Also Griptilian's high texture helps. It really doesn't help me if the blade slips out of my hand.
I think Mini-940 can be doable for me as long as handle is long enough. For the jurisdictions that requires less than 3", then I might resort to re grind..

Not me, the OP mentioned a 3" restriction (back in February, which I didn't realize when I replied).

Blade yes, handle no. Little too much finger choil. Plus we like being rebels.

/|\ Mark the finger coil is one of best features of the 810. That coil makes the knife safer - better control, & great from having your hand slide down on the blade. I wish a lot of tatical knives had deeper finger coils. On customs like my Terzuola TTF3A I had Bob extend the guard a bit for better protection. The finger coil is one of the reasons Emerson’s CQC8 is a favorite ( also think Banana Knife is a cool nickname)🍌

If Benchmade has done any market research they would know a mini 940 would out sell a auto 940 ten times over
With knife laws alone never mind popularity of a mini 9401 -
Bill
Any news of a mini 940 ?

/|\ Interesting question. Has Benchmade made a new model with a clam shell handle in last several years? I wonder if costs & tolerances make it less appealing to manufacture.
