blade has holes?
I sent in for sharpening and it came back with some holes on the blade?
Is this normal? Why BKC modified the blade?
I am pretty sure the holes are not there before.
I disassemble it before.
Any idea? What is the purpose of these holes?

the number and placement of the holes are used to denote blade steel before the blade is lasermarked.
obviously i wasn’t there when you took apart the knife but i’m sure they were there before. can’t see any reason bm would have added them during lifesharp service

Holes were probably already there ......... they use them to identify blade steel .
Did they give you a new blade ? If not Iam sure the holes were already there.

You guys are so sure about this. That make me have second thought. But why this is the only blade I see holes?

I look my knifes very closely. I was checking it and I see lights through the axis lock hole on the blade. That was the reason I took it apart to double check.

I've got a few BMKs that I've taken apart and noticed the holes too. And I've noted that the more common knives don't seem to have them. I think mrnobody and DJ are correct in stating that the holes are used by the BM factory to identify blade steel during the manufacturing process prior to Lasermarking the blades.
It really does make sense.

Well, if they want to identify the steel by drilling 3 holes. I doubt that, one hole maybe. One hole is larger than the other 2 and just right outside the disc spacers. They even need to change drill bit, wield.

Yes, it is code. A CPM-20CV blade will have different holes from a S30V, which will be different from S90V, which is different from D2...

The holes according to my latest research. They are oil holes.
They are storing tiny drops of Blue Lube so the blade can have lubrication constantly.

The holes are for blade steel identification during the manufacturing process as stated above.

Ha Ha, you just drop the oil into the holes..
It just like the lube in the discs. Every time you flip it open and close there are small tiny bit of lube fly out of the hole to lube the blade and it will go out with a tangent direction.
It just like reservoir of oil.
