New Knife Recommendation
Dear all, I currently EDC a Benchmade 586 Barrage as I like the Axis lock and I really like the idea that the knife can be locked closed just in case my daughter gets hold of my knife. The only thing I'm not to keen on are the handle scales so were wondering if Benchmade make any other knives that lock closed. I have had a quick search on their site but cannot find any other models so thought I'd ask here, cheers.

You mention you don't care for the scales on your 586. Did you look at the "Custom Shop" for the Mini Barrage? < Direct link. You can customize the Barrage series knives on the Benchmade website directly.
There are a number of other models that have an integrated safety lock. Most of the Assisted and Auto models have locks. It really depends on the style of knife you like and the knife laws in your area. The 586 has a big brother in the 580-2 and the 580 if you like the style but are looking for a larger version.
The 590 series Boost models utilize the same integrated safety lock as your BMK as does the 1000001 Volli. Then there are the 495 Vector and the 470 and 477 Emissarys, both assisted and using the an integrated safety lock.
I mentioned a few models for you to contemplate but you can always look at the larger online retailers to check out the different models they have available. As well there is always the second hand market, but I suggest checking one of the larger brick and mortar authorized dealers in your area so that you can put your hands on what you're buying.
Hope this helps!

/|\ what scales on your present knife? As BKC has made the knife over the years with various handles ( even last Forum Knife).
In additional to Tim’s suggestion of custom builder, you could also contact DOAT. A set of scales of your choosing cheaper than whole new knife.
Lots of choices with that model since you like it.
Enjoy you hobby!

Most the Benchmades I like I am not allowed to EDC but I own a few I just play with
. I also have three gold class knives which I won't EDC, I think I'm looking for another excuse to buy another Benchmade

Maybe PM Farrell, another UK forum member. Has a lot of Benchmade & UK knife law knowledge

Thank you for the responses. Cannot carry auto's and balisongs over here but if own them already then are ok but can't take them out the house. Assisted are legal but I would not want to discuss the fact as they deploy just as quick. this is another reason I wanted to change my 586 as when it shoots out I get some funny looks. So would ideally like a non assisted axis lock that could lock in a closed position.

Thank you Tim for the custom shop link, I quite like the look of the vertical G10 scales so I'll contact Benchmade to see if they would just sell me these and as for the assisted I suppose I could remove the spring.

No problem. I have a couple Mini Barrages, one in the standard gray glass filled nylon and one in horizontal ridged G10. I like the later much better. And yes, you can deassist your 586.
I've never inquired with BM CS to see if a scale swap can be done. As the knife will have to be disassembled you'll have to send it in. Do let us know the outcome of your call.
As Bill mentioned above you might want to contact DOAT (DeathOfAllThings) as well as Keyman via PM to see if they have any custom scales available or if they could wip some up for your 586.
It does appear that you've been exposed to knife addiction and and now have a case of it!

/|\ While both Keyman & DOAT are recommended. DOAT has posted lots of custom Barrage handles in Production Section below & can’t recall seeing Keyman having them.
No doubt Keyman can make custom handmade handles for anything. DOAT has CNC equipment & has computer programming for a limited # of Benchmade models ( 940, Grips & Barrages with more models to come in the future)

I'm pretty sure all of the assisted opening knives that Benchmade makes have the secondary lock that you're looking for. I'll suggest the 495 Vector, by far my favorite knife that they currently make.

The easiest way ls like other said, de-assist it. You remove the spring.
