2550 Limited Coyote
I just purchased this used and was wondering if anyone had any info on it? I couldn't find much about where/when these were sold, though the original owner did say he thought he bought it around 2007 from Savson Swords and Knives.
Also, I'm not a big fan of serrated blades. I am considering trying for a replacement plain edge blade. Does anyone know if I send it in to BM if they would replace the blade with a plain edge for the $40 fee? I realize the 2550 was discontinued for the 2551 and am unsure if blades from the 2551 would fit it, and am unsure if they have any plain edge 2550 blades left. I asked customer service but was told I'd have to send it in. I'd like to know I have a decent chance at a blade replacement before I send it in.
Thanks!
Dan

If you haven't already, check that they are allowed to ship knife back to you. Different states, different auto laws. Also, there is a want to trade section at bottom of the forum directory.

There is a BM dealer near me, i was going to have the knife shipped back to them. And I've never seen the coyote 2550 before, so I'm not sure what my odds are of finding a plain edge version that someone would want to trade me.

Its worth a call to BM Customer Service to check and see if the 2550 will accept a 2551 blade. From what I've seen of both knives it looks like the major differences are in the handle and length of the blade. If the tangs are the same you might just be in luck. I've sent a couple of combo blade BMKs in and had them swapped out (at a charge of course) for plain edge. Let us know how you fair!

FWIW, the law is a federal interstate commerce law. (The Switchblade Knife Act, (Pub.L. 85–623, 72 Stat. 562, enacted on August 12, 1958, and codified in 15 U.S.C. §§ 1241–1245), prohibits the manufacture, importation, distribution, transportation, and sale of switchblade knives in commercial transactions...)
This affects Benchmades ability to ship to individuals across state lines. ATKI, Knife Rights and others are actively trying to repeal this law.
