Newbie
Hey Hey!!
New girl in town! I have only had a barrage knife and I was just wondering what are some of your favorites and what knife I should maybe start looking at?

Welcome
You can never go wrong with a bedlam. A lot of the Osborne 900's a very popular, ergonomic & utilitarian

The 940's and the Griptillian seem to be pretty popular (and comfortable), and there are plenty of them to choose from. Beyond that, it's really about what you like and need from a knife.
Oh, and welcome to the forums. The people here are a really fine bunch, and most of them are quite a bit more knowledgeable on knife matters than I am.

Welcome to the forum! I feel like I'm a newbie too. I just returned to the forum a couple days ago. As far as which knife to look at next, I've always liked the feel of the Griptilian (usually just called a "Grip"). It is probably just a bit bigger than your Barrage and it would not have the assisted blade opening feature of the Barrage, but it feels good in the hand and it does have the Benchmade Axis lock, which really sets the company apart. Oh...also, it is the biggest seller in the Benchmade line. There are a lot of variations in handle material and steels available too.

Welcome, Benchmade made many , many quality knives. I’ve carried a version of 940 as an EDC for years. It’s a constant companion, even when I add a larger folder or fixed blade. I’ve a daughter who is a knife enthusiasts too & 940 is comfortable in her smaller hand.
While Bedlam may work for you it is one of Benchmade’s largest folders, as such it ain’t disappearing in a pair of skinny jeans as an EDC.
I’d suggest the 940-1501, high end blade of 3.4 “ at a price under $200 ( great value). If you like it & want something bigger as a 2nd blade then look at 950 & 810.
Let us know your selection(s)

Welcome to the forum.
Love the 943. The Anthem is also nice, but comes with a higher price tag.
If you like assisted, the Emissary is pretty cool - comes in large and small.
Bill made great larger blade suggestions - the Rift and Contego. They have a cult following along with the Bedlam. The Loco is a nice one too. Can’t forget about the Crooked River.
if your state allows autos or balisongs, you’ve got more choices.

/|\ As I said my daughter has smaller hands & some knives that are OK for me are too big for her hands. That said I think the LOCO being very thick may not work for you.
I also forgot to mention the BUGOUT, 3.2” blade of S30v for $114 great buy. It is thin & light weight.

Hands can be finicky. Colonel Jackson (my pup) and i walk almost everyday with his best friend toby & his owner. She is 5 foot with smaller hands. She is becoming more and more of a Benchmade enthusiast. First knife was a griptilian that she is still "borrowing". After that we went up to the factory store and we handled almost every knife there. She settled on 5750 mini persidio & an 8600 bedlam?

Welcome.
It's refreshing to have a female grace our forum, you'll find that this is a predominantly male forum and yes we discuss man things like guns, cars, hunting, fishing, all kinds of outdoor sports, some of the members here have backrounds in the military so memories and experiences are shared but also everyday things like cooking, house repairs and family, some of the members here are also excellent craftsmen, a very diversified bunch.
Regardless, you'll will get to know guys that are honest, kind, generous to a fault, serious men with integrety that are stand up guys and gentlemen to boot and just plain good friends that will make you feel welcome.
As far as a knives go, you hit a nerve, do you know how many favorites each of us have? we actually have days and clubs for particular models (members always compete for the lower club member numbers, God knows why), some of us actually personlized our favorites with the names of our children and wives, heck I did, you've made it into the cuckoo's nest, stick around, you wallet will be thinner but you will be happier.
But in all seriousness I personally think that any of the lighter sub 4 inch models will probably fit the bill, the 417 Fact could an excellent choice with a slightly longer blade.

Welcome!
Which knife you choose totally depends on your personal needs, but I highly recommend the 535, as well.

Welcome.
I will throw a suggestion out there...
The 737 Aileron. A strong medium sized folder that will fit small to medium sized hands really well.

Thank you for such a warm welcome! I am PUMPED about this forum! Shoot bring on the guns, knives, memories and the whole lot! I ain't I am ready to learn and get to know y'all! I still got to get all the names down and all that fun stuff but it'll be a fun adventure. And trust me I already feel my wallet getting thinner. haha
Alright this where I really am going to sound like a newbie. With the 417 Fact, I love the length of the knife, but I have never had a blade that thin. What are the advantages of having a thin blade or is more just what feels comfortable to the owner? Which do you prefer? Thick or thin blade? Thanks for your patience in advance

I also love that you have engraved your knives with your wife/kids names!

Personally, I would prefer wide berried blade (Benchmade 560-1 Freek, Benchmade 737 AILERON for example) over thin blade. I like wider blade that makes very nice slicer. Personally, the handle of Fact is a bit too thin diameter to securely hold onto.

/|\ I like lightweight knives, but when I handled the Fact, I didn’t like it. It will not replace my 940-1

Wide sounds better to me! The better the grip the happier I am hahaha (let's be real I'd probably be dropping a thin one left and right)

/|\ the Fact felt “blocky” in hand. I thought maybe Benchmade Moscow designed it. This is not to take anything away from BKC superior manufacture
If I bough one I’d definitely have Keyman make thinner handles. I also think being so thin it’s a stabbed & poor cutter.
If I’m carrying a 4” blade I’d prefer 810 design. If you look beyond Benchmade’s my favorite for years has been Emerson CQC8. The design of the two is similar. The 810-1401 has axis lock & M390.
The CQC8 easier to clean & take apart in field & with Ti liners is lighter & quicker in hand.
For me I compared the Fact to the 940-1 I was carrying on the day I handled the Fact. I love the handle on the 940’s/943’s it such a comfortable grip for me, I’d rather give up the additional 1/2” in blade length o the Fact for ergonomics if the 940. The Fact handle is like a rectangles block ( 4 of 6 sides are same size )
Remember knives are a very personal item. Research Blade HQ’s video on people’s knife preference it was vast.

Welcome to the forum. A few I carry or have carried and personally would recommend checking out are the 710,806,805,730. The 810 is a cool knife as well as the crooked river series. I have yet to own one but have handled a crooked river and I really liked it. I failed to mention the 940/943 series. They are nice and there are a lot of options right now as far as blade steel/handle materials go.

Somehow I missed this post way back when. Welcome! Don't worry about the size too much. I was going to get my wife a mini-Grip so she would quit borrowing my knives, but she said "No, get me the knife I really like!" Which just so happens to be a 275 Adamas. She gets this silly little grin on her face when she plays with it, and she's only 5'1" tall.

It’s a shame that the Ares isn’t easy to find at normal production costs. It was my first BM, and still probably my favorite. So comfy in hand.
