Have you guy ever had this before?

Recently, I haven't been able to find any excitement.

I get this from time to time.  For me, it usually happens when I find my needs met "just fine" by one or more of my current knives, and new purchases don't bring anything more to the table.

For me, this usually means I:

    1. Look for weaknesses or upgradeability in another part of my EDC system

    -OR-

    2. Buy a second (or in some cases 5th) version of my most used knife, and/or customize one of them.

One project I would love to do but need to learn better sharpening techniques and add some $$ to my hobbies budget, is to get an auto Adamas, grind the scales to my liking, and attempt to put a convex edge on the blade.  I've also been procrastinating on modifying the handle of my Boost (now with Keyman's scales) and getting Micarta scales for my Freek and shaping to my preference... and I keep wanting to get Keyman scales for my Mini Onslaught, but my discretionary budget has been limited over the last few months and prioritizing point #1 listed above.

Been there and done that. I ended up with a drawer full of knife regret.  My advice... just hang in there. Something new will catch your fancy or some old model comes up for sale.

Oh screw it. The custom shop can be kinda fun. Or custom scales can spice things up a bit.

Well, I did some customs and kind of feel the custom is not able to compare to the manufacture's product. The fancy material or the looks are definitely please your eyes. But if you look the detail you will find flaws. For the price you pay, I don't think it is worth.  This is just my personal feeling.

Going through exactly the same thing now. Nothing out there interests me. Perhaps I have too many good folders & fixed blades that I’m just going blind to the new products due to this.

My solution is “stop looking & take a break”

/|\ Thanks for sharing Patrick looks nice & hope you like it.

For me, it’s a no buy as I won’t buy a flipper unless it has thumb studs / thumb disk so if firing the flipper doesn’t lock the blade there is a back up. Two other things:

    1) the clip looks sleek & sexy but with curve if you turn it for Lefty carry the curve going wrong way ( maybe a lefty clip comes with the knife.

    2) Not a fan of caged bearings as dirt collectors.

    3) axis lock

My 940-1 didn’t even get a little bit nervous while I watched the video.😉

Patrick, if you want a thin gentlemen’s knife track down an old Kit Carson design by CRKT. M16-01 with carbon handle. I’ll look for pic & post it.

    /|\ Patrick 3rd from top.

Also I am very fond of the “little bulldog “ M16-00, the bottom three knives for a 2.7” blade it has great grip ( between gimping, lightening holes & textured CF).

Top 2 are “big dog” M16’s with carbon fiber handle & one of the first working flippers I’d ever seen on a knife

    Thanks, Bill. Points well taken.

Tough to argue against the 94x's..just starting trouble w/ the comment due to recent bitterness..

..I had a 943 and really understand the brilliance of the design..I easily understood how 94x's could knock everything else out of pocket, sincerely..I had vowed to start buying multiples..prefer the reverse tanto to the clip point (minority). However, I won't be buying anymore Benchmades...just still cleaning out my locker..

For me, this Viper has enough positives. I'm not a flipper guy..or even a Ti frame lock guy..but this one reminds me of the 426/426..w/ a similar shape/profile of 94x and an 805...Ti/CF, flat ground M390...couldn't pass it up for the price..

Curios of how well done the M390 is..

I've looked at the M16..not crazy about saber/hollow..and I've become a little snobbish, admittedly..

But, I keep my expectations low..

Thanks for the pics/input, Bill. Sincerely appreciated.

I like it! Would prefer it over any 806, love that they didn't f it up with a thumb hole. Might want to drill for thumb stud, other than that i really like it

Ah, I love the CRKT Carson M-X knives.

I was into knives back in the late 80's into the mid-90's and kinda got out of it for awhile. One of the knives that got me back into it was the M-16 (and the Benchmade 940 sealed the deal for me).

There was just something about that knife that spoke to me.

I have had a bunch over the years and still have a bunch. It also the knife I started my son off with, so it is sort of "our thing."

    Still love them.
