757 Vicar
Those of you that may have a BM Vicar, what are your thoughts and how do you like it? Looking to get one for outdoor ranch use. Thank you.

I would think that a vicar would do great around the farm if worn on your belt. It takes up a good bit of pocket space. Have you looked at the Bedlam? The 860/8600 has a longer blade, but is narrower. The 8600 auto is nice for one hand operation, not an uncommon scenario around the farm.
This may come as a surprise to some, but i am a big fan of the Bedlam!!!

Tu, I am shocked, the next thing you know you will be carrying two and fashioning them into an axe.

TEXAN42, I own the Bedlam and the Vicar. I haven't carried the vicar at all and carry the Bedlam every time I head to my land in the Shenandoah.

I don't have a comparison of Vicar to Bedlam. But the Adamas is very close.

For non farm use the Vicar 757-151 is one of my all time favorite Benchmades.

/|\ Vicar is a liner lock , not an axis lock. While I wouldn’t carry either in pocket I recommend 810-1401 over both.
Chip, SRE1 & of late Tu are biggest fan boys of the Bedlam. I think if Bedlam as pure fighter ( thin pointed blade , skull crusher, blade to handle ratio) . I think owning a Bedlam is an excellent idea, as a worker the 810 or crook river (CR) probably a better choice. With the CR you can customize vs 810-1401 with M390 blade best value.
As to Vicar I am not a fan of the knife makers designs. If I using a liner lock I prefer designs of Terzuola, Emerson & Chris Reeves.

/|\,Texan, second from bottom is a super CQC8 blade length 4.2” if your going big liner lock highly recommended.

I picked an 810-1401 on a Knifeworks labor day sale, great knife!

I liked mine, regret selling it. It is a big knife, and the G-10 can be rough on pockets. It has a big blade so it opens pretty easy which can be both a good and bad thing.
It you like it, it should do well for you. If you really like the knife but want something tougher, then the above mentioned Adamas is you ticket.

I should have my first axis Contego in a few days. I love the fixed, but have not been drawn to the 810 until recently. Just happens to be the 810-1401

I have an Adamas as well and like it very much, came perfect from the factory. I held a Vicar at my local shop and liked the feel of it, just keep thinking about the blade shape, not sure if I totally dig it.

/|\ I found the 810’s steel liner saw teeth & the G10 rough on my bare hands ( understand intended to be worn with work gloves) on my first 810-1401. I sanded down the G10 hot spots & sent of the liners to DOAT, who grounded of the “teeth” on the liners. The teeth on 2nd 810-1401 didn’t seem as sharp ( maybe Benchmade changed the machining). The Forum Knife 810 had smooth liners & CF handles, if you find one grab it.

Vicar FTW

I know it is classified as a liner lock, but it is so beefy it could be better termed a sub-frame lock1 -
How do you like the blade shape? What do you use it most often for?

Don't actually carry it much, it currently has no clip as I am in the middle of building a new clip, and the knife is too awkward to ride in the bottom of the pocket.
No complaints about the blade shape, not great at fine detail work, or thin slicing, but cuts very well despite it's very beefy profile.1 -
Well since I have both the 275 Adamas and the 810-1401 Contego I went ahead and ordered the 757 Vicar, price was too good to pass up. Thanks for the replies.

Vicar is one of the smoothest benchmades I’ve ever owned. I can’t stand the scales and mine is totally customized. I sold the knife below and it went to Sweden. However, I recently traded for it back so it is coming back home as I type this. I currently have nothing to EDC so I will be happy to have it again.

I love mine - super smooth. The scales are grippy and work well with gloves but they will eat up your pocket.

Yeah, I like it a lot. I saw one at my local shop, bit they still wanted $255 o think....I got mine, brand new, for a lot less.

Glad you like it. I picked mine up just after they were discontinued. Most places had them at a reduced price until they were gone. <180.

Yeah, with coupon I paid $168. I'm happy.

Did you happen to remove the coating yourself? If so, care to share your technique? Looks like some nice sharp lines at the edges!

I see what looks like a Tom Krein stamp on the blade so I bet he did it.

Thanks, i saw that but could not make it out

Tom did the regrind. It’s scary sharp and a bit more balanced... he did however tell me to never send one of these to him again. It was a pain and took a long time.
