The only way I heard about any DC models is right here on the forum, try contacting BM by mail or by phone maybe you'll get an update then you can share it with us.

    Care to elaborate

From BM? From a member? How long before? Etc. Etc.

I've tried contacting the BM mods and calling - but my efforts were to no avail.. They prob. wouldn't release a future DC'ed list to the public - at least I assume so..

Usually someone chimes in if they hear anything/rumors/facts.

There are some members that hear things earlier than others, usually when they do they will create a thread.

usually around November there is a thread that asks what will be discoed this upcoming year and there is a poll.

    It has varied.

There have been announcements in the information and announcement section of the forum. Sometimes word has leaked out by other means.

However mostly you wait until the catalog is released and check to see what is not there anymore.

The biggest change happened a few years ago. Used to be the knife was discontinued and then a bunch of them would be released through big distributors and find their way to places like eBay. Old timers remember knives like the Darkstar that could be had for a song. This would be back in the early 2000's.

Now, production stops BEFORE the announcement is made. So when it is announced you need to move quick as supply is limited.

What knife are you worried about? Long time Benchmade fans are pretty good at predicting the fare of a particular knife.

    Thanks Mark/Korzs

It seemed as though BM was DC'ing before releasing any info, that's why I asked, haven't been around long enough (on the forum) to see classics go..

I asked the mods about the 530 but no one said anything.. I know it's been around forever, but I wonder if it will eventually go like the other notables.. Has the 530 seen a steel upgrade since its release? (i.e., on regular production 530's, not LE's).

I believe the 530 is a pretty good seller, but that is just my opinion. I do believe early models were 440C, and current production is 154CM.

You have seen a fair number of LE's here recently, which is normally a good sign for the model.

The 530 is essentially an update on the older 350, which is the manual version of the 3550. In other words, the linage goes way back and is an iconic Benchmade style.

I would not worry about 530's just yet.
Many of us this yr have been picking up a few NIB P/E 941's in the $120's / $130's as an example.
    Wink

I meant to say 741's LOL LOL
    Darn numbers.......

I don't remember ever seeing any forewarning about a to be discontinued model, beyond the conjecture of fellow forum members. It is just missing from the next catalog.

You never know...I have always had the fatalistic feeling that if the 806 could be dicontinued...ANYTHING could be discontinued.

There was a forum member here a little while back called Auto_luver who had a policy of what ever model he especialy liked he would buy at least two of each where at least one of would be kept in pristine condition in his safe.

When I asked him about the logic behind it he said that any knife can at one point can be DC, if all your knives are users and with the londevity of BM knives in general and taking into account there are other knives in your EDC rotation, it should last you a liftime.

I've seen the 530 model for as little as $85, pick up a few when you have the funds and enjoy.

Sorry for the rant, a passion should be fed and not denied

Thanks, I do hope it will be around for a while longer, like PO said, if the 806 saw its demise, anything could go.. I’m just glad the -1303 forced me to try one out.. Not gonna lie, the regular production model is badass as well..

I’ve talked down Grivory & Noryll GTX in the past (and am kicking myself now
    Roll Eyes
) , but it has a different feel on the 530 compared to the regular size Grip.. It also hasn’t shown any wear whatsoever..

The regular 530 has been riding the left BP for a week in a half, w/out a clip (being used, sat on while driving/at home/at work - no signs of wear (period)..

For one of BM cheapest offerings, it rapidly moved up to my #1/2 spot

I wish I could, I’m trying to be super selective now (which is freakin’ hard).. Just trying to pick up the ones that work for me now.. The next 94x I will pick-up will hopefully be a LE next year

I’ve had that mentality from the get-go.. I usually find a knife that I adore, and pick-up a few more for the ease of mind - the sickness lol

There will most likely be a few more 530’s that find their way into the safe..
    Wink
So far, two -1303’s and two uncoated/PE reg. productions..

Hoping more LE’s will come out in the future.

Word on the street was the 806 never sold well. It was the knife everyone was going to get around to buying. When it was DC'ed demand skyrocketed.

I was just thinking it might have something to do with what else is in the line-up at the time to compete with another model. I've always wondered if the 14205 did in the 730...and then the 14205 runs its course, and is discontinued as well, and there are still many loyal fans of the 730.

Who knows...outside the executive cabal at Benchmade, we just don't have all the data.

That is true of the Barrages too, particularly the Mini...honestly, it is not immediately obvious to me when I first pick them up whether I have the Valox scales or the G-10 scales. I have to scratch 'em with a finger nail some times to listen to the sound. Prolly got something to do with the amount of hollow space in the Grip handle.

Ham handed it.... Meant to say P/E 741's
    Rather than 941's......

    That's exactly it.

I've seen G10 smooth out pretty fast with regular use, micarta absorbs waaaaay too much moisture/hand oils making it discolor fast, and aluminum scratches faster than most any material BM offers.. But, Grivory & Noryll GTX looks brand new still.. I'm very satisfied with the amount of use and lack of wear so far.
