I voted M4, living in a high dry desert location...but if I was in a wetter or more humid environment I might switch to M390.

Same. I live in a semi-dry climate so I chose M4, otherwise, I would have chosen M390 too. I used and abused my LFTi (my first knife in M4), and it was super tough, and kept a fairly nice edge.. My next go-around with M4 will be with the 810.. so far its my favorite knife & steel.

I'm in Oregon, so I went with M390, my second choice would be CPM-M4 though. Of the 9 Benchmades I have 4 or M390, 4 are CPM-M4 and one in D2.

I voted 440C. It is a great all round steel that I feel gets overlooked by the "super steels." It sharpens easily, rust resistant, holds a good edge, and is pretty tough.

1095 wasn't listed, but that would be my vote for carbon steel followed closely by O1 tool steel.

    S30V and D2 are probably my runner-ups.

    Runners-up? Who knows.

M390. Winters have 25% humidity, summers have 125% humidity.

I voted m4. I live on the gulf coast near Galveston. So far I haven't had any trouble with corrosion on any of my m4 blades. But I am careful to keep them cleaned off and free from the salt water. I really like the way m4 holds an edge. And it has been pretty easy for me to sharpen on my Sharpmaker.

Went with M4. M390 would be better for outdoors in general, but I keep my blades dry these days. If I get wet, I go home.

Yes, really......did you not read my post?

Nothing wrong with 440C, had it been named something else it would be looked at in a different light IMO. Do some research on it, you might learn something.

M390 and CPM-M4 are tied as my two front-runners. Certain tasks demand corrosion resistance. Others demand toughness.
