Send in for free sharpening to Benchmade factory. Very well trained. I hear knife sharpener is one if there most difficult positions to fill.

Thanks, I will send to Benchmade when the knife gets so dull i cannot sharpen it myself. But what i am looking for is a sharpening system for everyday use at home. Any recommendations anyone?

Try stropping it first. A touch up maybe all it needs

Most any system out there on the market will be fine ...... I like edge pro the best .....but any is fine

There are plenty of videos on systems on the market today.

    This.

Learn how to strop and maintain your edge, and you won't have to sharpen as often.
That said, I'm a huge fan of the Wicked Edge, but the cost is prohibitive.  Plus I hate getting it all set up to sharpen.  Because of this I end up using my Sharpmaker more often than the WE.

    Dear Cheap B@$tard,

Thank you for you reply and advice.

I have no experience with making a strop, how to choose the right leather, etc. I remember from my childhood the old barbers stopping their straight razors before shaving the customers' necks. Always fascinated (and frightened) me.

    Any recommendations?

    Many thanks,

    Cheap B@$tard, II

There are lots of videos on YouTube that can show you how to make a strop and use it properly.

First choice is the basic Sharpmaker.  It'll do ya' for most edge maintenance.  Add ultrafine and diamond rods later to expand the utility.  Also consider a Knives Plus Strop Block (also available from Amazon).   You can make a strop cheaply but the Strop Block is a ready-to-go device that doesn't cost a whole lot and should last for many years with proper care.

Another vote here for the Sharpmaker.  This was my only sharpener for years.  If you don't let knives get butter-knife dull, it's all you'll ever need.  YMMV

Work Sharp... I like their GSS and GFS. Thinking about getting some extra diamond plates for the GSS and converting them to super fine honing polishing plates, using lapping film. I want a sharp, mirrored edge. Recently bought a Sharp maker. Considering an Edge Pro next.
