Why would anyone need more than one knife?

and also, why is there not a "over 100" option?

How about if you have over a 100, mark the over 50 box and put in a comment - I guess I didn't think there would be that many with over 50 - silly me, look where I'm asking the question, should've known better.

how can you have too many?

I'm okay with not having an over 100 option, because then I would have to count them

It shouldn't be keeping up with Joneses, it should be keeping up with the forumites

For me, I only buy when it's something special & really designed to meet my standards.. I could understand how knife buying can be addicting but some you really don't need.. But that's the thing, it's hard not to, especially on the forum with all these great threads lol.. Unless some great LE comes out, I'm tapping out for a while.. Gotta put the 710/810 duo through the ringer

+ I have the same problem, that's why I don't tell anyone how many I own anymore.. People don't get it, just use the "how many shoes do you need?" Argument and you're gold

I have too many, even after doing a substantial thinning of the herd. Over 100, less than 500. Give or take.

I voted "over 50", but right now it's really only about 75. The number fluctuates alot, but never gets below 50.

I need some of Po's courage. He has the ability to "clean house" when the numbers get out of hand.

I haven't had any problems cleaning house when the count gets high. Although it does get harder and harder as I end up with more I really like.

Nothing wrong with that. I made the decision last year to have only knives that I will use as "users"-no more safe queens. I was surprised that I still have between 20 to 30 Folders when I counted them up. I honestly could live with a $10 Old Timer pocket knife and just have my fixed blades as I prefer fixed blades over folders.

I could easily narrow down my folder collection to 5 knives. My 940, 930, 710, 9130, and 9555 as those are the knives I carry 95% of the time.

If I had to narrow it down to my top users, it would go 710-3, 810, and the 940SBK-1101.. All the rest were splurge mood knives, the ones you come back to are

I ended up adding to my collection this afternoon. The store where my wife works has HD Mini Pika's in stock with G-10 scales. It was $30 with the discount, not a bad knife for that price.

    No surprise here.

I try to follow the same principle, in fact I do carry all of my knives, but the count is still 75 or so.

About a dozen of them get most of the pocket time, but I get around to carrying almost all of them regularly. I have five or six that haven't gotten any pocket time for a prolonged period, and I'm getting ready to move those pretty soon...but those LEs keep coming along so the number isn't coming down.

Of course I don't need all those knives, but it sure makes me happy to have them.

I figure what a person "needs" depends on their lifestyle. I have essentially three different environments that I spend my time in, at work, off work suburban, and outdoors. And I need a different type of knife for each environment. Speaking only about folders to stay on topic, I need the following:

    Work days:
    fancy small EDC (e.g. a 707-701, or 530-111)
User grade EDC (Mini Grip, 525, mini Barrage)

Off work - home and around town:
    fancy large EDC (581, 806-1101,customs)
User grade large EDC (806BK-1101, 551 LE, WARN, 520)

Outdoor - any user grade large EDC above

General self-defense - one medium size and light weight, one big and sturdy.

So, I figure someone like myself needs about six folders.

Needless to say, I'm waaaaay past that.

    I have approximately 20 folders.

Favorites: CRK 21 Carbon Fiber Sebenza, Benchmade 940, Benchmade 710-02, Spyderco Sage 1, Spyderco Gayle Bradley, Benchmade 950, Benchmade 810, Benchmade Shotshow Grip, and Cold Steel Voyager.

I enjoy the Benchmade knives more than the other knives (which are -excellent- knives from great companies) due to the axis lock, great customer service, and blade shapes. The 940 and 710-02 are personal favorites among the Benchmades! Only the CRK 21 Sebenza surpasses them in terms of personal enjoyment, but only slightly!

I got over the adamas pretty fast too, mood knife.. It will make a good "bug out" bag knife, along with a fixed.. I'll stick to the 710/810 combo

Over 100??!! OMG! That's just crazy!

    Just kidding.

I would probably have over 100 now too, but I have been concentrating on Limited Editions and higher-end knives for the last few years.

It's nice to see so many knife addicts voting for over 50 knives.

I'll have to let the wife know - she thinks I'm crazy.

Wife: How many knives do you need? How is this knife different from that last knife?

Me: This knife has an M390 stainless steel blade. The other one has a S30V blade.

    Wife: *rolls eyes*
