I dont have an exact value to tell you, but i am sure that by peeling off the cf sticker you definitly hurt the value. they are around and not impossible to find if you look in the right place. some other will be around to give you a number but i wouldnt expect it to be much over 125 if even there.

    Thanks timmy<3bm.
It has been carried, and the sticker was coming off anyway. I've always loved the 705, and this just feels like a beefed up 705. I am contemplating getting rid of it, but not sure.

    Thanks again.

The 705 KOTM had an immersion dip coating applied to look like Carbon Fiber. They (Tarjac) do a number of different pattern coatings like camo, cerakote etc. Here’s a link to the company with the pattern they applied:

Yours sounds like a user either way but like Timmy said the resale value will be less with the coating removed. They don't come up for sale too often or at least I never see them.

The carbon fiber pattern was applied by hydrographic printing (same way you get faux wood grain on car stuff). With out that, I doubt it is worth more than a regular 705. The aluminum handles might add some value, but not as much as you might think.

Oh, and treat that blade well. They don't have any more spare ones, so if you damage the blade, that's it (and a 707 blade will not fit -- I asked).

Yes, Hydrographic printing is also often referred to as Immersion, Water Transfer Printing, or Fluid Imaging Technology (F.I.T.)

A 707 blade will fit if you have a different backspacer, or standoff installed.

I have put a 707 blade in a 705-BW handle that I had also put standoffs in.

I also have 705 scales on a 707 blade. don't have a picture handy. far better knife than a 705.

Interesting. When I called them and asked, they said it wouldn't fit. Wish I had known that it would work. I passed up a very affordable user 705 that would have needed a new blade (of which they do no have any), and was told that the 707 blade would not fit.

I doubt Benchmade would put a 707 blade in a 705 for you. They wouldn't even put a Benchmade 960 blade on a 13960 for me.

I called in once to ask about if thisa blade would fit into thata handle. I was almost positive it would but they just said 'no, it's a different knife' 'parts aren't the same'
Did it anyways and it was fine. I think they just say no because they don't want to encourage you to tinker.

This would be what BM has called a Frankensteined knife.
Something which they discourage and will more than likely not be covered under warranty.

Since it is a smaller version of the 710; maybe you could call it a frankenweenie knife.

No more so then those of that have added custom scales, or standoffs.

Sorry, I used the term Frankensteined knife incorrectly.
That would be a Hybrid knife not a Frankensteined knife.
I have spoken with several members here at the forum that have inquired about custom scales in relationship to BM's warranty.
Here is what they were told,
"What you are doing is A-OK with them and there is no warranty issue what so ever.
They have two real issues here; one is with aftermarket scales that modify the knife far too much and they therefore don’t want to take responsibility for it. The other issue is what they call Frankenstein Knives that make their product look horrible.
What they look for is the same screws and original Benchmade parts."

Truth is, after dis-assembly honoring the manufacturers warrantied is solely at BM's discretion.

So seems that putting a 707 blade in a 705 handle would be A-OK then. Or, putting a set of 705 scales on a 707.

    Yes, I'm sorry d_clark.
    I was definitely off base.
    You are totally right.
It would certainly seem that way.
But then again, that too would be at BM's discretion.

To me ....... gettin a set of after market scales is totally different from using parts of two diff. model knives to make one.
Two knives into one is ........... Frankenstein
After market scales is ........ adding beauty to perfection ......LOL
