    I have some scans from the original catalogs on my galleries. I don't see anywhere that it lists the blade steel used. I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'cheap nylon' either. That stuff holds up for a long, long time.

    I believe they used to refer to it as
    "400 Series high carbon stainless steel"

    Just my best guess.

    Back then, there was no "steel of the week" nonsense that permeates the knife world, currently.

    Based upon the timeframe, I'd guess it was 440c...

    I always thought it was 440C--but have no proof.

    I have been looking for one under $100 for about 3 years now.

    I think I want one just to say "aha, I have one now."

    I only have one knife from Pacific Cutlery Corp and it was made in Japan. Because of that I always assumed the steel was ATS-34, but hopefully one of the moderators will see this thread and ask some of the old timers at the factory.

    I'd like to know.
