Another fan of the Rift
I was taking some pics for the Knife Thursday contest, and this cottonwood borer beetle crawled out from under what I had cut and crawled onto my Rift. He ended up hanging around for 10 minutes on my knife and wouldn't get off, so I took a bunch of photos around the base of the tree. I guess even insects know quality when they encounter it!

I usually have a luna moth or two on that sweetgum tree in May/June (wingspan of 12cm). We currently have a cicada killer wasp that has made a nest near our back porch, and she is about 5cm long (they are not aggressive toward humans the way hornets are, fortunately).0 -

Almost, but the cottonwood borer is common around here, and I've never seen the beetle that Lightning had getting drunk off his bourbon.0
