M390 Accidental Test
I was hurrying to get through a few tasks in the garden before another rain shower hit this morning, and was carrying my 710 M390. At one point I went to cut a thin piece of twine holding a plastic label on a new plant, but the twine didn't cut. I quickly tried again - still not cut!
At that point I looked more closely at the twine, and realized it was not twine at all, but rusted wire! I twisted it off, and thought about how I had just ruined the edge on my 710!
Once back inside, I cleaned up the knife and checked the edge - no visible damage! No nicks, dings, rolls, chips - nothing! Checked sharpness against arm hair - still shaves!
Very impressive! I think I'm beginning to like this M390!

Grampa, that's great that it did no damage! One last test is how it cuts paper. If it snags a bit when cutting paper, that tells me the blade has a small (that you might not even be able to see) imperfection that still needs sharpening.
I'm a huge fan of M4, but realistically, even though M390 isn't quite the same, it is still one of the best "stainless" steels I've ever used, so I'm glad we have it.0 -
Impressive it is, yes. (In my best Yoda voice) 0 -
Just checked, FJ, and no hang ups on the paper.
This is definitely a keeper!0 -
The Benchmade 581 with M390 steel i ordered for my birthday is on it's way to me. I am also looking forward to seeing how awesome this steel is.
