    You bet!

A blue lube knife is 100% protected against any food product that you care to throw against it!

    Sorry, I could not resist.

Good question though, never occured to me to ask if Blue lube is safe to use on knives that see food service...

    I doubt it.

I would not. Might cause 'digestive' problems if the blade is coated with the stuff. Inside the knife I wouldn't worry. Blades used for food prep I use pure mineral oil only and wipe clean after every use.

I have heard that Mineral Oil USP is the only food grade lubricant that never goes rancid. Other food safe oils like olive, canola, etc. will go bad after a while. I wet a small piece of a paper towel and drag the edge through it. I do this on my M4 blades. All of my non stainless blades are coated so I don't wipe the entire blade. I have been using Breakfree on the pivot, but don't let that get on the blade.

    No.

By law food grade oils and lubes must be rated for food contact use by the NSF and USDA.

If you cant find NSF and USDA ratings anywhere on the packaging then the product in question has not been approved for food use and I would not personally use it for food prep equipment.

Mineral Oil USP is safe. USP stands for US Pharmacia. It's intended use is a laxative. You can buy it in a pharmacy.

Blue lube should be fine, unless you are oiling the blade and not just the pivot, at that point I have no idea.

Apparently FrogLube may work for food knives as well:

    From their MSDS:
    quote:
    HAZARDOUS COMPONENTS:
None. Not Required. All food grade approved.

Its the only thing I use for my pivots, and I only use it for pivots so I never gave it much thought. I wouldnt take any chances though...
