Numbered Griptilians

When the "first" Griptilian came out,(the one with the oval hole right?), did they number the first (run) x-amount, 200/500 ? Did they number the first 200/500 of the "first" round hole, thumbstud version ? Not Limited additions or specials, the first run to signify the beginning. If not, what are the numbered ones I'm seeing signifying ? Thanks Benchmites
